"nice aim, y/n," ellie told the girl who tried to shoot at the rabbit, but only resulted in missing the bunny and startling it.

y/n glared at ellie, aggressively picking an arrow from her back and aiming once more, closing one of her eyes to concentrate but huffed in ignorance and removed the bow and arrow from her face as there was no rabbit to be seen anymore. "it's not my fault it keeps running away."

y/n was getting agitated by ellie's sly comments that had been going on since she met joel and y/n. "okay, whatever- lets just find the rabbit."

y/n nodded, following beside the auburn haired girl.

it was silent for a few minutes, the only sounds were their footsteps in the snow. the two young girls didn't get along very well. it was all over an incident when they first met and their different personalities didn't help, either. joel thought it'd be a good idea if they split up, but he insisted on leaving the teens together. y/n and ellie knew exactly what he was doing, but nonetheless, listened. he was practically their parent now.

"y'know you could've helped me," y/n said, earning a scoff from the girl beside her.

"i could've, but you wouldn't let me," ellie said. "you're really bossy."

y/n gasped and glared at ellie. "am not! i just told you i didn't want you to shoot."

"exactly. bossy." she muttered, crossing her arms.

"whatever," y/n muttered, continuing down the path of the little bunny tracks.

"oh! i see it!" y/n shouted, startling ellie as she glared at the hyper girl who pulled out her bow and arrow. "i see it-"

ellie yanked y/n's arm as they heard multiple gunshots that almost got y/n. they ran off, ellie still holding onto the girl's hand. finding somewhere safe, yet small. they squeezed into a small crack, seeing a bunch of men run the way they hid, they panicked.
"where did they go?!" one of the guys asked, aiming his gun in certain places.

"i don't know, but search the area," another guy strictly told the men who obeyed.

the soldiers were cursing and blaming each other for losing the two girls, but nonetheless, never gave up, searching the whole area.

"hey, since we might die and all," ellie started, breathing hard. "i just want to tell you something..."

y/n looked out the crack and then back at ellie, who was already staring at her. "what is it?"

"the only reason i've been acting like a jerk to you is because i-i like you," she said, looking down.

the girl looked at ellie in shock. she's always had a crush on ellie, too... but she never thought that she'd like her back. "s-sure, ellie..." y/n said, trying to deny her feelings and apparently ellie's, but the girl wasn't having it.

"y/n..." she sternly said. "i'm serious. i like you - i mean love you."

it took y/n a moment to respond, she was fidgeting with her fingers. ellie was being serious as she never seemed to take her eyes off of y/n and the genuine tone in her voice without the witty comments was enough for y/n to believe that the girl was being truthful.

"i-i know i've been nothing but bossy and rude," y/n said. "but the truth is, i like you, too. i was afraid of telling you because- well, you seem way out of my league."

ellie grabbed y/n's hands and gave them a reassuring squeeze. "hey, i think you're perfect..." she said, pausing, trying to think of some adoring words to say. ellie wasn't one to be romantic, just rather straightforward. her actions always said a lot.

the girl leaned in and smashed her lips against y/n's, pulling her closer in the cramped up place they were in. y/n immediately kissed back, gripping onto ellie's shoulders.

they both pulled away breathlessly, very thankful for it being a dark place they were in as they were both blushing.

"do you maybe wanna be my-"

ellie got interrupted by the sound of gunshots and the whisper-shouting of joel.

"ellie, y/n!?"

they squeezed out of the crack they were in and ran to joel who looked like he was about to have a heart attack.

"h-hi, joel..." y/n awkwardly greeted, making the older man let out a sigh of relief. "we're right here."

joel glanced at the girls' hands that were together and he smirked to himself. "so, i see you two are getting along now."

the two young girls glanced at each other, both of their faces flustered. they didn't dare say anything about the kiss that just happened a few seconds ago.
