02. "Who is it..."👀

The sound of pounding on my door alarmed me. I rushed out of bed and ran straight to Taliah's room. She was sitting up in bed rubbing her eyes. Once she noticed my presence she got out of bed and ran to me. I picked her up and walked down the hall to see who was pounding on my door at 6 in the morning. I put taliah back in her bed and told her dont come out until I say so. I closed her door and went to the door.

"Who is it?" I asked. Nobody said anything. I looked through the peephole and didn't see nobody. I opened my near by pantry closet and got my bat. I opened the door and looked down the hallway. Nobody but my landlord was In sight.
"Hi , Mr.Joe.. Um ...is that you making up all that noise?" I asked. He looked at me then towards my hand which was still holding the bat. I smiled nervously and through the bat back into my apartment. It made a loud noise as it hit the floor.
"You having any problems Naomi?" He asked ignoring my question. I nodded my head yes , sighing.
"My baby dad is out of jail and it seems like he's looking for me" I said holding my forehead. Mr. Joe sighed and got off of the floor and walked towards me.
"You mind showing me a picture of him so I can know who not too let up to your room." He said.
I pulled out my phone and showed him the only picture I could find.

"I may have to hire some bodyguards around this motherfucker" he said catching me off guard. I stared at him. He looked at me.
"What. you see the size of him" he said walking away, mumbling to himself. He stopped halfway and turned slightly towards me.
"And to answer your question yes that was me making all that noise but I'm done now and rent is coming up in 30 days" he said waving goodbye. I waved goodbye and sighed once he was out of earshot.
I went back into my apartment and seen taliah asleep on the couch. I went and picked her up and took her to my room and laid her in bed. So much of not coming out until I say so, I thought to myself.
She squirmed around slightly until she was comfortable again. I went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth. Once I was done I went into the kitchen to see what I could cook for me and taliah. I saw I had some eggs and pancake mix with some sausage links.
"This will be good"I said outloud to myself.

"What we finna eat?"a voice said behind me.

I stopped dead in my tracks. I just know I was dreaming. I turned around slowly with the egg carton still in my hand. I dropped them to the floor breaking the eggs. I looked down and seen eggyolk all over my foot.

"You thought you could just leave me, Naomi? The streets talk baby" he smirked walking slowly towards me. I hurried and closed the fridge running around the table and out the kitchen. I ran into my room and closed the door and locked it. He banged on the door angrily.
"You gone let me see my daughter and you finna give me what I want!" He yelled. Taliah woke up and started crying. I shh'ed her and held her in my arms repeating "everything is gonna be okay", while rubbing her hair down to her head. Deep down I knew it was the total opposite of okay.
"Alright, I'll be back!" He yelled and hit the door one more time as hard as he could. I heard his footsteps fade away from the door. 5 minutes later I heard my front door shut. I sighed.
"Mommy . Was that daddy?" She asked wiping her face. I nodded my head.
"Yes baby , but don't you worry about anything." I assured her. She nodded and laid her head on my chest. Talia is 4 going on 5 and she's very smart for her age. She knows her daddy is a bad man and she does not want anything to with him.
"Mommy , I love you" she said, putting her little arms around my neck.
"I love you too , baby" I said back smiling. I hugged her back while kissing her forehead. Once she fell back to sleep, I tucked her under my covers. I tip-toed to my closet and grabbed my gun out of my box on the top shelf.
I unlocked the door slowly and eased out of my room with my gun ready to fire. I had enough of this bastard ruining my life and trying to take MY kid from me. I walked into the kitchen then into the living room, making sure he was gone. As I was headed to lock the door, Mr.Joe ran in with his shotgun .
"I heard some loud noises, is everything alright?" He asked startled. I nodded my head.
"He looked in my hand and nodded towards my gun.
"So why you got that?" He asked. I silently cursed.
"Naomi , *he sighs * ..I'm afraid ..you're going to have to move out ..I ..I can't have my other tenants lives in danger behind this mess with your baby's father." He said turning to walk out.
"No no no come on Mr. Joe, I just lost my job I can't be homeless not with my babygirl. Please" I begged. He shook his head. I'll give you 1 month to 2 months. But if your still-
"I won't be" I assured him before he could finish his statement. He eyed me and then looked at the gun in my hand.
"I hope you got your gun license" he said walking out of my apartment.
"I do" I yelled to him as he walked down the hallway. I closed and locked the door. I sat in the living room chair, wondering when I was gonna get a break. I looked to my right and seen the card Kasson had given me sitting on the table. I picked the card up and rubbed over it. I reached into my pocket and grabbed my phone. With no hesitation I dialed his number. He picked up on the 3rd ring.
"Hello ?" He said sounding like he was out of breath. Before I could say anything I heard a girl in the background.
"Baby come on hang uppp" she moaned sort of.
"Hi this is Naomi, We met in the parking lot. I was calling to -
"Listen hunny, I was in the middle of getting some of MY MANS dick. Call back in another hour or so , thank you , Buh-Bye" the girl said , then hung up. I looked at the phone in disbelief. I won't be calling nobody back. If he's looking for people to work then I'll get a call from him. I went back into my room and curled up with taliah , drifting off to sleep.
