That Wednesday quickly became the best day of my life.
After I had finished getting ready Ethan grabbed my hand (yes it was awkward and yes I blushed) and ran with me out of the shopping centre and back into my jeep. He offered to drive seeing as he knew exactly where we were going and I knew nothing.
After about 20 minutes of driving he pulls into the carpark of a gorgeous sunflower field.
"We're here." He says as he turns off the engine.
"Ethan, it's beautiful! But why are we here?" I ask puzzled at why he would bring me to this location.
"I thought you would look beautiful amongst these bright yellow sunflowers. I imagine yellow would be a gorgeous colour on you." He replies. I see him wipe his hands on his denim jeans. His hands were sweating! He was nervous about being with me... But why? We don't even know each other.
"Um Ethan I don't think this was a good id-"
"Please Cassandra trust me on this. Please." He cuts me of mid sentence.
No one has called me Cassandra in a very long time. I only ever get called Cassie. To be honest I find my full name hot coming from his plump, perfect pink lips.
"Fine. Just please don't murder me or then I'll have to call the cops." I laugh as I send a wink his way.
"Oh Cassandra your hilarious." He teases while opening his car door, gesturing for me to do the same.
We walk across the stone path leading up to the sunflower field in silence. I catch him glancing at me a few times but we never speak, nor make eye contact. As we reach the entrance for the field he opens the small, wooden gate and gestures for me to go in before him.
"Thank you." I shyly say.
I've never had a guy act this nice to me before. I start to become nervous. What if I stuff up? What if he's playing me? But I force all the negative thoughts out of my mind and decide to ask the question of all questions.
"How did you find me Ethan?" I ask as he takes my hand and guides me into the middle of the field.
"You will find out at exactly the right time. Now is not the right time." He simply answers. "Lie down with me."
He gets on his hand and knees and lies back in the middle of the field. After a bit of hesitation I decide to join him. It couldn't hurt, right?
"What's your story Cassandra?" He whispers, obviously not wanting anyone else to hear.
And for the first time in my entire life I tell someone about my life. I don't care that it's a total stranger, or that were in the middle of a fricken field of sunflowers. It was my time to talk so I was going to talk. I start of with how my parents died, then tell him about the abuse and bullying. When I finish I feel a tear trickle down from my eye and Ethan leans over and wipes it off with his left index finger.
"Wow... You've had a really hard life. Your a fighter Cassandra, your the strongest girl I've ever met." He respectfully says, staring up at the cloudless sky, deep in thought.
"What's your story Ethan?" I ask, hoping that his life hasn't been as hard as mine. I was really starting to like Ethan, he was the first person to listen to me. The first person to care and show respect for me for so long. I had a feeling we were going to become friends, maybe Ethan Knight was going to become my first ever friend.
"Come with me, I'll show you." Ethan says as he stands up and pulls me with him.
