Shadows of Darkness

~Chapter 10~

"GET IN THE CAR NOW! We are going home!" Aunt Leila screams as she pulls me by my hair to the car.

"LET HER GO!" Ethan screams as he tries to get me out of my aunts strong grip.

"AUNT LEILA STOP! I DONT BELONG WITH YOU!" I scream and punch and kick and try to free myself, but fail miserably.

But then the unthinkable happens, Ethan runs to the jeep and starts the engine. I knew I shouldn't have trusted him! Now he's leaving me here to fight off my abusive aunt alone AND stealing my car.

"SEE! Even your stupid little boyfriend doesn't want you. Get in the car before you make a bigger fool out of yourself you stupid girl." Aunt Leila's words hurt like a bitch. But I choose to ignore them. There is no way I'm going to let an inconsiderate old hag get to me.

I suddenly hear a roar of an engine. Ethan is coming towards us with the jeep.

"CASS! RUN!!" He warns me, he hadn't left me, he was helping me.

My aunt's grip had weakened at the sight of the approaching jeep, giving me enough strength to get away. I ran and ran and ran and didn't look back until I heard a massive BANG! I turned to look behind me and the jeep had collided with my aunts car.

"QUICK! CASS! Get in!" Ethan screams as he pulls the jeep up next to me.

I jump into the jeep as fast as I can, and Ethan speeds up, leaving the chaos far behind. We never looked back.

Ethan drove me back to the shopping centre carpark, but instead of leaving me there alone he slept in the front seat. He refused to leave. He wanted to protect me; keep me safe from my aunt and uncle.

Today was the first day I received revenge on my aunt (even if it is only in the form of a smashed car AND even though Ethan did it), today was the first day I've ever told someone about my life, today was the first day someone had told me about their life.

And that is why this strange Wednesday spent with a stranger named Ethan Knight was the best day of my life.
