The children sit quietly playing Go Fish and trying not to be bored while the channel is changed to the football pregame, causing James to perk up instantly, and become mesmerised. Mother finishes readying the potatoes for mashing, and prepares the cranberry sauce and shreds cheese for a lunch of grilled cheese sandwiches. The action of Thanksgiving begins to slow.

The sports announcer mentions a player on the opposite team openly confessing his homosexuality and it being met with tolerance, much to the joy of the player. This launches Uncle James into a bout of swearing about how 'fags want to make all our children into fags and destroy the human race,' before his wife manages to calm him down while Father grimaces at his homophobic relations.

The children decide to play half court basketball, but James' children say that Anne can't play because she's a stupid kid and would just mess things up. Anne runs inside crying and Steve marches up to Cousin Calvin, a huge boy of 16. 'Why the hell did you tell my sister she couldn't play?' he demanded.
'The stupid **** (this word is far to offensive to be printed) had it coming,' Cousin Calvin sneered, earning him a hard punch from Steve. 'Shit!' Cousin Calvin yelled, 'Hold the bastard,' he said to his siblings, who obliged, grabbing Steve's arms. Cousin Calvin began to punch Steve while he struggled. Father came outside to yell about making Anne cry when he came upon this sight, and immediately broke it up, dragging the four inside.
