Inspired by “Wishful Thinking” by John Petrucci

Moments plucked from fairy-tale

Pages unfurling in surrender

To the alluring summer gale

From the window of my desire

Primrosed by a perfumed inhale

The crown of camellias covering

Her locks which dare not fail

In enticing elating infatuation

Her piercing smile could so impale,

Her skin, light peach and freckled orchid,

Her eyes a calm Eustoma grail,

Deep and full as the Caribbean Sea

So vivid in thought, so imposed the detail

Starlight igniting her violet gown

Bare shouldered, her skin so frail

Like silk to the hand as our dance began

Our turning waltz did make a trail

Her dress glittered in hibiscus

Her voice like a breathy nightingale

Sultry in romantic verse

The more I hear, I do derail

Her lips lingering, rose and rouge

And as they touch mine, and I know they’ll

Be touching intently, I then turn pale

White chrysanthemum as the memory fades

I awaken from sleep, my eyelids the veil

My eyes rolling ‘round, my face on the desk

My breath bombarded by olfactory ale

But before I weep, pining my fictional love

A familiar scent begins to flail

My senses, I turn to my neighbour’s window

Gracious, slow and gentle, with pail

In hand, she tends to her garden sill

The vibrant flowers beginning to wail

In joyful bright colours, and she looks to me smiling

With the same lips I dreamt of
