***** This is a somewhat very sad chapter because I was listening to depressing songs while writing this... I attempted to add some more humor so it won't get too deep but it wasn't very effective. Do I need a trigger warning...?*****
Hyunjin stood outside the dining room, right out of view of the occupants inside having a seemingly happy dinner... without his presence ruining the mood. There seemed to be a constant flow of conversation. That never happened when he was in the room with them. All that happened when he was there were awkward silences and significant glances between his parents and brother.
With shaky breaths and teary eyes, he silently made his way out of the house to make his way to his shared apartment.
Throughout the entire journey, his pessimism and self-doubt wormed into his mind. Was I never good enough for them? he thought, do I not matter to them anymore? Did I ever matter to them?
By the time he made it to his apartment, his mind was going into overdrive. Everything hurt. He fumbled with the house key before finally successfully unlocking the door. Slowly, he pushed his way into the apartment. He only successfully locked the front door before dramatically falling against it.
A soft tear slid down his face as he stared into nothing.
"Hyunjinnie?" a voice called out from the living room, "Are you there? We heard you open the door. Why didn't you come in?"
A boy with squirrel-like features popped his head out from around the wall. "Hyun...? OH MY GOODNESS SAKE! HYUNJIN! ARE YOU OK? GUYS! HELP ME WITH HIM!"
As the boy rushed his way towards the slumped Hyunjin, two more faces appeared from around the wall. It just occurred to Hyunjin how pathetic he must've looked to these strangers but at this point, he didn't care because the squirrel resumed screaming again. His headache was killing him earlier but the yelling was just giving him a migraine.
Noticing his pained expression, one of the visitors piped up. "Sung, I think not yelling will help a lot right now." He had a calming deep voice and freckles all over his face. He had this glint in his eyes that screamed 'mischievous'. Hyunjin assumed that if not for the situation, he would be an absolute child.
"For the first time ever, Felix is right, Jisung." The other stranger said. " I think he needs more of a calming atmosphere and someone to listen to him. INSTEAD of someone clamouring all over him. Let's help him up and to a more comfortable place."
Sighing in resignation, Jisung pulled Hyunjin up (with much difficulty) and slowly dragged him to the couches. He plopped him down onto the couch. With a grunt, Jisung fell into the spot next to Hyunjin while the two strangers respectfully took the second couch.
"Jinnie? You want to talk about it now?" Hyunjin's best friend/enemy asked.
At the same time, Felix said to his friend, "if not for the situation, I would have murdered you for your side remark about me never being right, BEST FRIEND."
Unaware of the world, Hyunjin just continued to stare into nothing.
"How are we supposed to help him if we don't know what the matter is?" Jisung questioned the other two.
"We guess?" the freckled one asked to no one in particular.
"OR we could make an EDUCATED guess," the other one said. He reminded Hyunjin of a puppy. A know-it-all puppy.
"What do you mean by that?" Jisung asked.
"Well, Lix and I have this roommate who used to de the exact same thing."
