The boy flinched, whirling around to face whoever was behind him, only to lock eyes with her. He covered the burn on his arm, trying not to flinch but failing miserably. "I'm fine." The girl stared at him, her green eyes analyzing his figure. She sighed and rolled her eyes, taking her phone out of her pocket. "You're bad at lying. You ran into a random alleyway, sat there for three minutes and failed to notice someone behind you."
She dialed a number and let the phone ring while she finished. "I'm not gonna ask how you got those scars, but I'm also not letting you walk somewhere by yourself in that condition." She glanced up at him while the phone rang. His eyes were blown wide. He was definitely surprised she didn't just leave him there after he replied. She wondered why.
"--The person you have called is unable to answer the phone right now, to leave a voicemail please press--"
She hung up.
"That woman never answers her phone." She grumbled. She stood up from her crouched position dusting off her skirt as she did so. It was only then the boy had realized that she was the same age as him. But she sounded a little older... odd. "Hey! You coming?!" He flinched at her figure at the end of the alleyway. When had she walked past him?
He grunted in reply, walking towards her. He shouldn't really be following a stranger to an unknown area but today couldn't really get much worse. They walked for about 10 minutes before she suddenly stopped. He saw her turn towards an alleyway for a moment before she continued on her way. He stared for a moment, what had she gotten distracted by?
Meanwhile she observed him more subtly. He was hunched while they walked, opting to stay silent throughout the walk and to stay unnoticed by those they had passed. So he was running from something before, and based on his body language and... build, it was probably bullies... she wondered why. But she couldn't just ask...
"Hey, the place is right here." She pushed open the door and stepped inside. He glanced at the sign, his eyes widening for a moment. He'd stepped inside to see that same girl talking to someone.
And holding a kitten.
"Welcome to Neko Sweet Café and Adoption Center, how may we help you-"
"He's with me." He sputtered when the girl spoke up. The man she was talking to had already left for something. He glanced at the woman greeting him, who'd simply smiled at her. "Yuzuki was playing with the kittens, he has his collar so no one asked about adopting him." She nodded.
The girl turned towards the staff only room as the elder she was talking to walked over. She turned to look at the boy and began to walk towards him. "Thank you, Kobayashi-San, sorry if I was bothering you." The old man stopped his pursuit, glancing at the girl. "No need to apologize Aino, now shoo! Go get your cat!"
The girl smiled and left to her her cat. The man sighed and turned to face the boy. "You should be grateful that girl found you. These scratches look bad."
The boy had ended up staying at the café for longer than intended, fully intent on thanking the girl who'd brought him there. But he hadn't seen her leave.
"Oh, Kurosawa-San? She left a while ago, she's probably still close by."
The boy hadn't expected to see her while walking home, he hadn't expected to see her at all after she left. But when he turned the corner there she was. Crouched over a small box on the side of the road, holding her phone. He'd starred at her in disbelief, and slowly, he approached.
"Hey."
The girl stopped, turning to face the boy who'd just approached her. She smiled in greeting when she realized who had approached her. "Hiya, nice to see you've got your scars fixed up." She gestured at the bandages. The boy snorted at her.
"Hiya? Do you greet everyone like that?" The girl shrugged at him, putting her phone in her pocket. "Only those who seem like cool people."
She stood and turned towards him, reaching her hand out. "Kurosawa. Kurosawa Aino, to be exact." She gave him a closed eye grin, shaking her hand a bit. The boys eyes widened, he stared at her hand for a moment before he shook it. "...Shinsou Hitoshi." The girl grinned widely at him.
Today was ending up to be a much more unexpected day that he would like, though for some reason, it seems like an exception.
