Chapter 5

I waited till he got there and sat at the same table he had just been at.

"Hey beautiful!" he said when he sat in front of me.

I wasn't exactly sure of what to say or do so I decided to play along like nothing was wrong.

"Hey! Hows your grandpa doing?" I said as I tried to put the best face I could.

"He's doing a lot better actually. My sister drove here last night and we came earlier today to get some breakfast."

At that moment I just wanted to slap myself and smash my head onto the table. Really? His sister. Wow Alexandra, you couldn't have thought of that when you saw him could you.

"Oh thats great. Well, I mean its not great on the situation that she had to come here for but its great that she's here. " I said while stammering and babbling.

Jared laughed and asked me if I had any siblings.

"Yeah I do actually. I've got an extremely overprotective older sister that's always up my ass about everything." I said while making a sour face.

"Well, I understand her. Im pretty protective of my little sister too. Its just the two of us and I like to keep an eye on her. I drive up to her place twice a week and make sure she's alright. I mean her being as pretty as she is I have to know if I have to go whoop anybodies ass for messing with her."

"But you see, you just make sure thats she's alright. Not my sister, she wants to tell me how to live my life. Thats what bugs me and gets on my nerves."

"Ya, but she is only trying to protect..."

The front door opened and he turned around to look. All the color from his face was flushed away by a single action, as he watched the two men walk in. His cold gaze followed them to the back of the room.

"Whats the matter? " I asked him softly

"We have to go" he said without looking at me and grabbing my hand

"Where are we going!" I said as we rushed out.

"Just keep walking" he said while keeping his head low

We walked around the corner and stopped, as he grabbed my shoulders.

" I'm going to need to go home ok?" he said with a stern expression.

"But why? Who were they?" I asked, obviously concerned.

"Just go please and don't ask anything. It's best you don't know." as he kissed me on the forehead and pushed me along the crowd of people.

As I got swept away, I couldn't help but worry about Jared and what was going on. I walked to the park and decided to sit down and think for awhile.

While I walked I couldn't help but get the feeling that I was being followed. I turned around casually and saw two men (who were quite big and buff) walking a safe distance behind me talking to each other.

"You're being paranoid Alexandra. Calm down and don't overanalyze the situation. Everything's fine." I assured myself.

I turned around once more to find the two men a lot closer than they were before. My heart skipped a beat as I walked faster. I could hear the footsteps behind me start to gain speed as well. The panic inside me grew until I broke into a frantic run.

I was pushing people out of my way as I was trying to escape. As I turned around the men were still hot on my pursuit. When I turned back forward someone grabbed my shoulders and my primordial instinct told me to swing.

"OW! FUCK! WHAT THE HELL YOU'D DO THAT FOR!?!?!? Nevermind, just keep running!" said Jared as he held his nose with one hand and grabbed mine with his other.
