Summer stood in front of me, her mouth agape. I knew what she was thinking, she wanted to know how her daughter was asleep in my arms, and her step-daughter was standing next to me.

I set Ruby on the couch and told Yang to sit with her while Summer and I talked, she did so happily, though that may be because she was tired herself.

I followed Summer into the kitchen, and the second I walked through the door, she was already talking.

Summer: Where did you find those two?!

Me: I was shutting down one of The Actions, they were up there on the stands.

Summer fell into a chair, I don't think she believed that Tai would actually do something like that.

Summer: Well, what do we do? We can't just give them back to Tai, and I know it's only a matter of time before they recognize me.

Me: So we keep them here. We can do a better job raising them than Tai would. Besides, it would give you a second chance, and I've been thinking about talking to you about kids for months. It works out.

She sat there for a moment, before standing up and hugging me, which I returned.

Summer: Alright, we're in this together. If we fail, it's both of our faults.

Me: Deal.

We both left the kitchen to find that both Yang and Ruby were awake. But the second Ruby saw Summer, she started crying, jumped off the couch and hugged her. Given how young she is, she could only muster one word.

Ruby: M-Mommy!?

Timeskip

Well, turns out, the parenting thing wasn't so bad. Ruby is sitting at fifteen years of age, Yang at seventeen, and hell, Summer and I didn't do so bad. Both Yang and Ruby want to become Huntresses, and while the path of a Huntsman isn't the one that I follow anymore, I'm still proud of them, and thoroughly plan to support them through anything they do.

Beacon and Signal start back up for the year in a few days, so I've been spending as much time as possible with my daughters. Ruby practically dragged me to the dust store to look at comic books and to buy ammo for Crescent Rose.

She learned from her Uncle Qrow, who I managed to get into contact with shortly after I cleared The Auction.

While I find it unfortunate that I didn't get to train Ruby to use her weapon, I did get to train both Yang and Ruby in hand-to-hand combat, which Yang went on to make her specialty, even designing her weapons to work with her boxing style.

Ruby was looking around the store, occasionally running over to me to happily show me something cool that she found.

She's still a child in many ways, and she does her absolute best to keep the best relationship with both Summer and I. She was originally reluctant to call me Dad, but after we explained to her (when she was older, of course) what Tai did, she was quick to change her mind about it.

Yang started calling me Dad almost immediately, she was unfortunately old enough to have a small grasp on the situation that Tai put them into, and had absolutely no plans to forgive him anytime soon.

Ruby ran up to me, holding a magazine that was advertising weapons, hopping up and down.

Ruby: Dadlookatalltheseweapons!

As I was leaning over, humoring her, I heard a voice. The voice belonged to a guy I've been tracking for a few weeks. Roman Torchwick.

Me: Ruby, I need you to act like you're reading that magazine in the corner.

She looked at the counter, saw Torchwick, nodded, pulled out her headphones, put them on and headed to the corner.

I hid in the shadows, waiting for someone to come up behind her.

Thug: alright kid, put your hands where I can see 'em.

Ruby gave no response, which prompted an angry yell from the thug.

Thug: Hey, I said hands in the air! You got a death wish or something!?
He walked over to her, whipped her around and dropped her hood, revealing her headphones, he motioned for her to take them off.

Ruby: Yes?

Thug: I said, put your hands in the air, now!

Ruby: Are you... robbing me?

Thug: Yes!

Ruby: Ooohhh...

I walked up behind him and hit him in the leg with my baton, allowing Ruby time to kick the man through the store, making him break through the window.

She unfurled her weapon, while I pulled out my 1911, holding it in one hand and my scroll in the other.

Roman: Okayyy. Get 'em.

I cut the lights off, using their lack of vision to my advantage, shooting one of their legs and knocking my pistol against their head, knocking him out. I shot the last two in the chest, ending the fight quickly.

The lights flicked back to life, letting Roman see his forces had fallen, he thought of a new plan.

Roman: You were worth every cent. Truly, you were.

He dropped his cigar and crushed it with his cane.

Roman: Well, Red, Fox. I think we can say it's been an eventful evening, and as much as I'd love to stick around...

He raised his cane, the bottom opens to reveal a rifle with a cross sight.

Roman: I'm afraid this is where we part ways.

I used my focus, dodged out of the way, and shot him in the knee, knocking him to the floor just as the cops arrived, with a Huntress.

Huntress: Both of you, come with me.

I shrugged and followed her.

Ruby sat down in a chair in front of a desk, I stood behind her, waiting for the Huntress to start talking.

Huntress: I hope that you realize that your actions will not be taken lightly. You put yourselves and others in great danger.

Ruby: They started it!

Me: Lady, I'm a grown-ass man.

She glared at me, but I didn't even flinch, she isn't scary.

Huntress: If it were up to me, you'd be sent home... With a pat on the back... and a slap on the wrist.

She slammed her riding crop on the table, causing Ruby to let out a squeak, which made me let out a small growl.

Huntress: But... there is someone who wants to meet you.

Ozpin came out of the back, holding his mug and a plate of cookies.

Ozpin: Ruby Rose

He leaned in, way to close.

Ozpin: You... have silver eyes.

Ruby: Uh, um...

Ozpin: So! Where did you learn to do this?

He showed a video of us fighting the thugs.

Ruby: Signal Academy.

Ozpin: They taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?

Ruby: Well, one teacher in particular.

Ozpin: I see...

He placed the cookies on the table in front of her. She picked one up, eating it in a single bite, and then, not seeing any rebuttal, shoves the rest into her mouth.

Ozpin: It's just that, I've only seen one other scythe-wielder of the skill before. A dusty, old crow...

Ruby: Oh! That's my Uncle Qrow! He's a teacher at Signal. I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing. And now, I'm all like- Hooowaaah! Witchaaaa!

Ozpin: So I've noticed. And what is an adorable girl such as yourself doing at a school designed to train warriors?

Ruby: Well... I want to be a Huntress.

Ozpin: You want to slay monsters?

She proceeded to word dump about how romantic it would be to be a Huntress, meanwhile Ozpin and the Huntress study her.

Ozpin: Do you know who I am?

Ruby: You're Professor Ozpin. The headmaster of Beacon.

Ozpin: Hello.

Ruby: Nice to meet you.

Ozpin: You want to come to my school?

Ruby: More than anything.

Ozpin: Well, okay.

She smiled, wide-eyed, then turned to me.

Ruby: Dad! Can I go?! Please?!

I ruffled her hair.

Me: Just be safe, please.

Ozpin: Actually, before you leave. I want to ask something, specifically to you.

He looked at me.

Ozpin: How would you like to teach at my school?

Me: What's in it for me?

Ozpin: Living space, a cleared record, you get to personally watch over your daughters.

Me: Fine.
