Chapter 4: Sarah Lawiscky - First Day... Worst Day?

(The picture in the media is what Natalie looks like)

"Hey, Sarah, nice outfit. Do you even have enough money to buy a new one? I'd be happy to give you some money." she nags at me, trying to be rude and innocent at the same time.

My response is "I actually like this outfit. I do have enough money to buy new clothes, but I love this one."

Suddenly the bus speeds around the corner. When it stops I get on first with Nate following, then Gabby. We're the only people on this stop. Nate sits next to me and I see Gabby's face get red with frustration.

"So, what did you do this summer?" I ask.

He responds "Well, I went to my cousin's birthday party, got a girlfriend, hooked up, went to the po-"

"What! You hooked up with a girl!' I interrupt, because I was shocked and a little jealous.

"No, I was just fooling around. Seeing if you were paying attention." he chuckles, "Why are you so concerned?"

I blush and he laughs again. I answer "H-hey, I was just w-worried about you. Didn't want you to get hurt. I'm n-not jealous, OK?"

"Yeah, okay... Anyway, you better buy me a gift. Last year, you were pitiful."

I tell him "I got you something expensive last year! Don't you remember...it was a robot!"

"Yeah, a robot that malfunctioned when it tried my homework. It broke!"

When he saw I was upset he said "Look, I loved it. A+ for effort. I think you made it yourself, which is real sweet."

I burst into laughter. "I wasn't even mad that you made fun of it!" I continue to laugh, and then he starts tickling me.

"Just..," I say between giggles. "Stop, ah ha." I inhale sharply because he found my most ticklish spot: my sides.

"Okay, okay. I'll stop." I then realized a lot of people were watching us and I blush with Nate. That's probably why he started talking to a random guy and ignored me.

Sigh. I just look out the window. Looking out the window clears my head and helps me remember an important thing: the greetings program. This is how it works: tons of tables have cards on them. One new kid per table, and the people that joined have to go to their numbered table. My number was eleven, so I of course go to table eleven.

After your seated, you greet the absolute stranger and tell them your name. They tell you their own, and you get to know each other. By the end of lunch, you are expected to be good friends, a person to rely on. That's how I met Eric, because he was new last year. These are all kids that either moved here or are freshmen. The reward for the people that sign up is one A+ in any class.

The bus was pulling up towards the school when Nate mumbled "This kid's summer was boring. He stayed at his grandma's for three quarters of it!" I feel bad for this kid.

"That stinks. At least I went to the pool plenty of times." I look over at the kid, and he looks like a freshman. Poor thing, he has to deal with high school all by himself for the first day. Poor, poor...

"Gabby! I told you no smooching on the bus," the bus driver screeches. We all look back and see Gabby and another freshman tangled in the back seat making out. WOW, she's already started playing with the freshmen.

I walk to my locker and see Eric's on the right and Nate's on the left. I hate being squished between them because they talk about gross stuff and forget I'm there. I'm fine with that, until they say one too many things and mumble "I'll tell you later" with a glance down to me. Then I'll reply 'What are you talking about?' and they answer with "Don't worry about." It aggravates me, but I'll just say OK.
