Selene and Jonas rocked the media after their alleged elopement two weeks ago. After a series of dating rumors, the two artists disappeared for two weeks without prior announcements, leaving their managements mum about the issues.
But this week, the two acquiesced to an interview with SBC for the first time!
The two first interacted in a club where August Denouvaille DJ-ed (READ: The Rise and Fall of Denouvaille's Music Career), which Prieto also frequents.
"We clicked," said Cruz [quoted from the interview]. "Madalang na lang yung makakilala ka ng taong instantly... nakukuha ka. (It's rare to meet a person who instantly gets you.)"
Both of them denied being together for the past two weeks. Prieto said she went home to her province to spend time with her family and Cruz said he was recuperating from his motorcycle incident out of town.
"We didn't date," added Prieto. "But we meet often and in secret. Not as a date. We knew we weren't allowed to, with our managements' strict rules. Ayaw naman naming maging sakit ng ulo. (We don't want to be an inconvenience to anyone.)"
What's next for the both of you now?
"I have a movie and couple of performances lined up," Prieto laughed. "Totally career muna. (Totally career first.)"
"Sa 'kin din (same for me)," Cruz agreed. "I have a tour with the boys which might keep me busy for the next couple of months."
You might not be able to see each other for the next few months, then?
Cruz and Prieto looked at each other quietly and nodded. "I guess not."
"But we're on good terms," Cruz added hastily. "So to everyone pitting us against each other, please stop. We decided to be friends so..."
"Yeah," Prieto smiled. "We're good friends."
But if you were allowed to, would you date each other?
"Definitely," Cruz answers within a heartbeat. He looks at Prieto and meets her gaze. "I want to."
"Me too," Prieto quietly agrees, but then tears her gaze away from him to look at us. "But we're not allowed to. So maybe the timing for us isn't right yet."
"Maybe someday?"
"Maybe someday."

Jonas Cruz and Selene Prieto's relationship (whether friendly or romantic) was highly sensationalized, but the two remain casual, albeit sad, as they reiterated that they were just friends, and that's all they're allowed to be.
Suffice to say that the interviewers (and no doubt the rest of their fans) are glad their story did not end up the way Romeo and Juliet's did, despite being dubbed the modern-day version of the infamous couple.
Maybe if they were given a chance to pursue their happiness, they would have been a wonderful couple.
