Did you readers actually think that I was a goner? If so, wow. You obviously have not learned how these books go.
I came back from the dead! I mean, I returned to the living. Sorry if you thought that I was a zombie. Anyway, how did I come back, you may ask? It will be explained in this chapter.
Believe it or not, it was only a minute that I was absent from this world. The worst and terrifying minute of my friends' and families' lives. But not me. I knew where I could have gone to. Little did any of us know that the Lord had other plans.
When I was told that my time in Forlot was far from over, I made a promise to myself that I would let Cindy know how much I love her. I still do feel bad that I did not tell her those words before I sacrificed myself.
The Lord directed my soul to the purple shards, and my pure soul took control of them. Everyone except Cindy noticed that my pieces were floating up and around and stopped the waterworks. A few of them blurted out what was going on.
Was I coming back? Yes.
The shards fused together, forming into glasses and clothes. Forming into a human. The purple human floated to the ground and was smiling. Then his skin and clothes returned to their regular colors. The only difference now was that there were small, purple crosses all over my skin.
"I will always love him," I heard Cindy say.
It warmed my heart when she stated that fact. After I was abandoned by my folks, I was not sure if anybody would care for me. If only I knew back then that many people in Forlot love me. And hearing my girlfriend say that she will love me no matter what, it was the perfect time to return the favor.
"I love you too, Cindy."
Everybody who had the "pleasure" of witnessing my death gasped in shock. Some were even in disbelief and whispered to their friends.
"Is that Caleb?"
"How can Caleb be back?"
"Thank that stars that he did not die!"
Cindy was the only person who did not gasp and ended the hug with my sister and spun around. Her eyes bulged, and her bottom jaw dropped.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I did pass away," I said. "But because I was willing to sacrifice myself for people who did not love me, I was given another chance at life." I held out my arms and hands. "I missed you, Cindy."
My girlfriend did not waste any time to come to me and squeeze me tightly. Usually, I would ask her to loosen the hug, but after what we both went through, I decided to let this one slide. I hugged her back and sniffed her hair.
No. It not weird that I sniff her hair sometimes. She always uses a shampoo that smells like the heavens, and the smell clears my sinuses, thank you very much.
I could hear her sobbing. However, these tears were different. They were tears of joy. We pulled away from each other, but stayed together by holding hands.
"It is a miracle," she said. "The heavens gave you a second chance."
"God gave me a second chance," I corrected her. He knows everything that has happened to me and what will occur moving forward. He knew the type of person that I would become and promised that I would live a good and long life."
"I do not understand," Mrs. Banks spoke up. "I watch and read the news, and there is usually a good person dying and the bad person lives. If your God is supposed to be a God of justice, why does He allow the evil to live?"
I smiled at her. It was the first time that I smiled at Cindy's parents and my parents. "I will be honest with you. I do not know."
"How do you not know?" Mr. Banks demanded. "You keep yapping that you are a Christian."
"Christians are not perfect by any means. We still sin. We still make mistakes. But what makes us different from the world is that we have what we need and try to set an example towards those who have not been reached out to."
"Like when you put your life on the line for our parents and Cindy's mom and dad," Joan pointed out.
"Exactly. I, a Christian..." I pointed at myself. "...saved a group of who loves the gays and the transgenders. I pushed aside what you four did to me and did what Jesus would have done. I saved you despite the color of your skin. For if I did not, you would have spent an eternity in a place that is worse than death."
I had a frog in my throat and coughed. Then I continued.
"That is probably why bad people live and good people die. Good people are more likely to spend an eternity in Heaven than the bad ones."
Cindy spun me around and gripped my arms. "Caleb? Why would God send you back here?"
"I performed a Jesus act. You should have seen Him. It made His day. Also, He healed my broken arm."
She choked on her tears and held my face in her hands. "God is good. And I am blessed that you are in our lives again. By the way, why are there purple crosses on your skin?"
"They are a gift from God. They are going to reveal how we can stop Anti-Caleb once and for all." I suddenly remembered Cal and Tamara. "I need to see my son and Tamara and reassure them that I am fine."
All of us looked everywhere for Kara, but she was nowhere in sight. After some looking around, we found Kara and Tamara - but not Cal.
"I am sorry," Kara whimpered. "Your anti kidnapped Cal."
