I knew it looked bad.

I knew it sounded bad.

I knew it felt bad.

And what I did I do? I did it anyway. I was here at the party the following weekend. With Hannah. Well, not with Hannah, but she spotted me here and had been trying to find an opportunity to ditch her.

The bass of the music pounded throughout the house. The scent of alcohol lingered on everyone's breath and bodies ground together to the beat. Contrary to the picture displayed before me I wasn't here to get laid like most of these people. I was, for once, siding with the half that wanted to get hammered and maybe even high. I'd probably been here for only an hour while Hannah was already tipsy.

"You wanna know where the real party is?" She shouted over the music.

I downed the rest of my fireball drink. "Not really."

"Oh come on! They have a bong downstairs!"

Finally.

I had a fuzzy feeling and felt myself walking a bit slower. The alcohol was working it's magic, and soon I would be inhaling something even more magical. The basement was filled with potheads I recognized from school. The putrid scent of weed wafted passed me, signaling that these guys had the good stuff.

Hannah took the bong from one of the guys and breathed in. She smiled as she made the smoke fly out her nostrils.

She held it up to me. "Your turn."

I took my turn, and many, many turns after that. I eventually lost my sense of time. It could have been hours, but I wasn't sure. I didn't have it in me to check my phone. I was too tired. I stood up figuring it was best to leave before I passed out. No doubt my parents would smell this on me and I'd be in for hell. I was too high to care though.

"I best be goin'." Since when did I have Jem's southern drawl?

"Nooo." Hannah whined and stumbled up, both high and drunk, and caught my wrist.

She backed me into the wall. "Stay for a lil' bit."

Before I could realize what was happening Hannah's lips hungrily moved on mine. My eyes closed and I began to kiss her back, thinking she was Emily in my intoxicated state. But a sudden jolt of soberness hit me in the realization that this girl couldn't be Emily. Emily Mathison was three thousand miles away, and some stranger was kissing me.

My eyes snapped open and I shoved Hannah off of me. "What the hell are you doing!"

"Don't pretend you didn't like it!" Hannah shouted.

"I have a girlfriend that I love!"

At the top of my peripheral vision, a figure moved by the stairs. I looked up. A petite girl with ash-blonde hair and crystal blue eyes watched me in shock.

"Emily..." The name left my mouth barely above whisper.

Emily, red in the face stormed over to Hannah and I. In the blink of an eye Emily threw her fist to Hannah's face. Hannah fell to floor cupping her nose.

"Who the fuck do you think you are kissing my boyfriend!" Emily practically screamed. Then she twisted to me and I flinched at the sudden movement. "You're fucking high right now aren't you?"

I nodded sheepishly.

Emily grabbed my wrist, digging her nails in and pulled me up the stairs and out of the party.
