Chapter 6 - Grimm’s Fairy Tales

October 22nd, Vale, Remnant, 2287 - Day 6

Ozpin POV:

At first I assumed this man was here to cause trouble or harm people, but after figuring out that he was not from here, I have come to the conclusion that he doesn’t even know any people to harm. He doesn’t even know what an academy is. He's explained his situation to me, so I have decided to help him. I still have questions to ask him, but that can wait. He seems like he needs answers more than I do. As I walk towards the school, I talk to him, answering his questions.

Lancaster: “So, where am I now?”

Ozpin: “You’re in Vale, one of the four Kingdoms: Vale, Vacuo, Atlas and Mistral.”

Lancaster: “That ain’t what I meant, Ozpin

Lancaster: “That ain’t what I meant, Ozpin. Where  am I? Last I knew, I was in New Orleans, Louisiana. Not Vale. Where is Vale on a map?”

Ozpin: “I know no Louisiana, however I can show you where Vale is.”

I pull up a map on my Scroll to show the cowboy where he is.

Lancaster: “What is that thing?”

Ozpin: “What?”

Lancaster: “The thing you’re holding, I ain’t never seen one of them things before.”

Ozpin: “Ah! That would be called a Scroll. It is a device the people of Remnant use for communicating, or simply accessing information. In this case, I’ve accessed a map of remnant to show you where you are. Now, you are in the Kingdom of Vale, in the northwest area.”

I zoom in on the map, amazing the cowboy.

Lancaster: “Damn, that’s incredible.”

Ozpin: “Indeed it is. Now, you are in Vale, as I said earlier, and you are in the east area of Vale, Beacon Academy. To the west of Beacon is the main cities, above that is the Forever Fall Forest, famous for its red leaves. I shall bring you into town after the tour of Beacon.”

Lancaster: “Why do I need to tour your school? I have no need for education

Lancaster: “Why do I need to tour your school? I have no need for education.”

Ozpin: “ Well, despite efforts to find out how to get you back to your world, I cannot guarantee that it will be immediate. It will take time.”

Lancaster: “I know that, but what does school have to do with any of this?”

Ozpin: “My Academy is not any normal academy. We train Hunters and Huntressess, soldiers that fight and kill the Creatures of Grimm, and protect the people from evil threats to uphold the peace.”

Lancaster: “What are the Creatures of Grimm?”

Ozpin: “Beings of darkness. You fought off an Ursa with your rifle earlier, did you not?”

Lancaster: “That’s what the bear’s called? Yeah, and there were wolves, too. Big ones.”

Ozpin: “Those would be Beowolves. You ran into a pack, so you probably took down an Alpha without realizing it. And without any understanding of Grimm. I’m impressed.”

Lancaster: “Yeah, I suppose. But I still don’t understand why you want me to see the damn school.”

Ozpin: “It’s quite simple, actually: I want you to join my school.”

Lancaster: “No.”

Ozpin: “No?”

Lancaster: “Did I stutter? I said no. I appreciate the offer, but I can’t stay here. I have to get home, to my own life. Which ain’t here.”

Ozpin: “Well, that’s a shame. I was hoping I could persuade you to join.”

Lancaster: “Some things ain’t meant to be. You seen my horse anywhere, by the way?”

Ozpin: “Oh, I was wondering who's horse that was.”

Lancaster: “Pardon me?”

Ozpin: “Your companion was wandering around the campus, so my staff brought him in.”

Lancaster: “So...you going to give him back?”

I’ve got him now. He’ll have no choice but to join.

Ozpin: “I might. I haven’t decided yet.”

Lancaster: “I beg your pardon?  My horse is my property. You don’t have the right to take him.”

Ozpin: “On the contrary, your horse is on my property. He has trespassed, on this land that I own. If I were any other owner I would have him shot. But...I am feeling somewhat generous today, so I haven’t yet. However, if you accept my proposition, you will be able to get your horse back, and I will not press charges.”

I let him think about that before I continue.

Ozpin: “If you join the school, and attend the four years, I shall let your horse go. The way I see it, you get the most out of it. You train to fight Grimm, learn about them, and you have a stable life until you get your bearings.”

Lancaster: “...”

He stays silent for a good while.

Lancaster: “Alright, fine. But the minute you figure out how to get me back to the United States of America, I’m leaving.”

Ozpin: “Understandable, of course. I’m glad we’ve come to an agreement.”

Lancaster: “You mean blackmail.”

Ozpin: “Whatever you prefer, Lancaster.”

Lancaster: “Actually, considering I’ll be here for some time, I guess you should know my true name. My name is Yukon Marston.”

Ozpin: “Well then, it’s a pleasure to be acquainted, Mr. Marston.”

Yukon: “Likewise. May I go see Bullet now?”

Ozpin: “Bullet?”

Yukon: “My horse. His name is Bullet.”

Ozpin: “Yes, of course. I’ll show you to the hangar.”

Yukon: “...What’s a Hangar?”

Just where did this man come from?
