CHAPTER SIX
"can you shut up?"
The darkness that had covered Peggy's vision was lifting yet her vision was still blurred.
"Her eyes are opening!" Someone shouted, "Get Pol!" They said again. She closed her eyes again as keeping them opening felt like the hardest task she had ever had to complete.
"Hello, love." Finn hovered over her head as Peggy fluttered her eyes open once again, this time keeping them open. "W-What happened?" Peggy croaked. She tried to sit up but before she got very far Finn's hand was pushing her to lie back down.
"Don't sit up." He smiled down at her.
"Oh, she's up!" Polly clapped. "You alright, love?" Peggy hummed, "yeah I'm fine, me."
"Hello, Peggy." Tommy entered the room, "your plan worked." "I knew it would." She smiled smugly. "Guessing this is a result of it?" Peggy pointed at her aching stomach. "Unfortunately." Thomas sighed, "we'll give yous two a minute."
"So, what happened?" Peggy looked up at her husband. "Long or short story?" He smiled, "just give me a summary."
"You kissed George, we can talk about that later. I tried to punch and ended up punching you instead by accident, I'm sorry about that by the way. All hell broke loose and I couldn't get you away soon enough and you were shot."
"Oh shit." She chuckled. "Why are you laughing?" Finn raised an eyebrow, "you could've died."
"But I didn't." She smiled.•••
"Peggy, someone's here to see you!" Polly shouted for the girl. "Who did you say you were?" Polly asked the blonde haired girl stood on her doorstep. "I'm Pegs' best friend! Frances!" She smiled. "Ah. Ok."
"Frances!" Peggy cheered as she hugged her best friend. "I heard about what happened, I'm so sorry! I think the boys might kill the rest of them, they're livid." Frances sighed, placing a hand om her best friends shoulder. She pulled out a chair and sat down at the small dining table. "Tea?" Peggy asked her friend. "Please."
The day passed as Peggy and Frances spoke about the races, gossiped about people back home, Peggy's new life, Frances's new boyfriend and Finn. Everything and anything, really. "I best be going. The trains tonight." Frances stood up, patting down her dress. "I'll miss you!" Peggy waved as she watched her best friend make her way down the street towards the train station.

Finn gazed at his wife. She was putting the teacups back into the cupboard after Frances had left. "So." He locked eye contact with her as she leaned against the bunker. "So," she replied.
"Why did you kiss him?" Finn asked. "Why were you flirting with her?" Peggy raised an eyebrow, "flirting with who?" Finn's eyebrows furrowed together. "The girl. At the bar."
"What girl?" Finn's eyebrows knitted together as Peggy pottered around the room, cleaning dishes and putting things back in their place to occupy herself so she wouldn't have to focus on her emotions.
"C'mon, Finn. Don't play dumb. There was a girl at the bar, yous were all over each other." She places her hands on the back of the chair and looked up at her husband. "I can explain."
"Then please, do, Finnegan. I know this isn't exactly love, yet, but it still means a lot to me. I only kissed George to convince him that I loved him."
Yet. It wasn't love, yet. Finn thought about that for a good minute before answering.
"Well, my excuse isn't as good as that, love." He began.
