Isis knew who had just stepped into the apartment and the way Genesis was acting scared her. She had never seen Genesis so upset before. While Genesis admitted to the fact that she was always angry, it was odd to see her usually calm sister red in the face. Like literally red.
The more Genesis talked the redder her caramel complexion became. It was clear to Isis that Genesis was about to lose it.
"Genesis, look at me," she said as a way to get Genesis' attention. It didn't work, however. Genesis' eyes stayed locked on the entrance to the hallway and Isis' heart sank when the first person to step through the doorway was Jonah.
Jonah walked in unaware of the drama that was about to unfold. Though Isis didn't see anything on the floor, she noticed that Jonah stumbled a bit before she looked up at them confused.
"What's going on?" Jonah asked.
"Nothing," Isis answered quickly before Genesis could. "Genie and I were just going to go for a walk."
"No we weren't," Genesis said just as quickly.
Freedom and Liberty pushed past Jonah and stepped into the bedroom which was right off of the living room. They were completely oblivious to what was happening. Jonah stepped further in the room and deposited the bags that were in her hands on the couch.
"Remind me again why I was the one who had to take the girls shopping?"
"Because Genie and I had to work. Speaking of work, Genesis, I'm sure you're as tired as I am. Why don't we take a nap and finish this later."
"I'm not tired and I think we should finish this right here, right now."
"What is going on?" Jonah turned to face them. Isis noticed how her face scrunched up in pain, like one would do if they had a headache.
"Are you okay?"
"She's fine," Genesis answered before Jonah could. Genesis snatched the letter from her before she could stop her and thrusted her hand out towards Jonah. Jonah took the letter, a look of pure confusion on her face and began to read it. "Recognize it?"
"Where did you get this?" Jonah asked in such a low voice that if Isis had not been watching her for her reaction she may have missed it. Jonah had always been the more meek one out of the five of them. She wasn't necessarily shy, at least not with them, but she was the quieter one. She surely spoke her mind when she felt it was right but Isis knew she cared more about making sure everyone else's feelings were okay.
Genesis turned to look at Isis, her face quirked up in smugness before she turned back to Jonah. "I found it where you tried to hide it."
"You went through my purse?"
"Yes, I went through your purse because you lied about that being a bill!" Genesis shouted.
"What's going on?" Isis turned to find that Liberty and Freedom had stepped out of their room. They looked upon the scene in confusion.
"Nothing," Isis and Jonah said together.
"No. Don't lie to them. This involves them too. They should know."
"Genesis."
Genesis ignored Isis. She yanked the letter from Jonah's hands and held it out for them to take. Liberty took the letter and Freedom leaned closer to read it over her shoulder. Isis was sure that her face mirrored theirs when she had read it for the first time. They looked utterly broken. Liberty raised her eyes to look at them all and her eyes were wet with tears.
"Can someone please tell me what is going on?"
"I think that's a question best left for Jonah," Genesis said, her voice laced with sarcasm. "Jonah. Would you care to enlighten us all."
