As you clearly weren't going to gain any information by just sitting there, you led the way off down the corridor, which was lined with doors.

"Crew quarters," you observed. "I'll bet we're on Deck Four."

"It would seems so," Spock agreed. "From here-"

He fell silent, suddenly looking down the hallway in the direction you were headed. You looked up at him in confusion for a moment, but then you heard it, too: heavy footsteps and low voices that were not speaking in a language you recognized, coming towards you. Spock grasped your arm just above the elbow and tugged, indicating a retreat back along the hallway. You followed, trying to move as quietly as possible. The unknown voices would pause occasionally, and you would hear the hiss of a door opening before the footsteps resumed their way. You were concentrating so much on walking quietly that, quite ironically, you tripped when Spock pulled you through one of the doors lining the corridor.

"Spock, who was that?" you asked, regaining your balance and turning to face him. "They weren't Enterprise crewmen."

"Those voices were speaking in Romulan," Spock said quietly. "I believe that the ship has been boarded, (Y/N)."

"Romulans," you repeated in disbelief, then swore, resisting the urge to kick something. "Great, just great. What now? Do you think they'll check here?"

As you said it, it finally occurred to you to look around your present here. It was someone's quarters, and from the peculiar alien décor, you had a hunch that it was Spock's.

"They will undoubtedly check here," Spock answered, watching you as you contemplated an unknown artifact on his bedside table. "They were communicating with one of their officers on the bridge, who was informing them of the quarters that read life-signs."

You frowned curiously. "You speak Romulan?"

"Yes."

"We can use that," you mumbled, thinking fast. "Spock, how many of them were there?"

"There are two. The higher ranking one is male, and he is ordering the other, who I believe to be female, into the quarters to subdue the crewmembers who are off-duty."

"Subdue how?" you demanded. "Their disruptors don't have a stun setting."

"From the sound of the weapon, I think it is one of our phasers," he said. "They must have control of the armory as well as the bridge."

"We need to get into auxiliary control," you said softly, more to yourself than to him. "Spock, how long before they reach these quarters?"

"Thirty-two seconds."

"Do you keep any phasers of your own in here?"

"No. It is against regulations."

That made your plan a bit harder to accomplish, but not impossible. You had the element of surprise on your side, after all. You grasped Spock's shoulder. "Listen up, and quick – I have a crazy idea . . ."
