Taehyung hung up the phone just as the bus approached the station. He passed his hand through his hair as he felt the little droplets of water hit his scalp. The rest of his classmates were chatting about random things. Some about the trip and others about New Hong Kong as a whole. He focused on the weight of his backpack. If he remembered correctly, there was a change of clothes, an extra jacket, his laptop, a couple of random books and his chargers.
He looked around as the teacher finally spoke up.
"I already explained the rules. We will be going to the closest android manufacturing facility, dividing into the AI engineers, the concept planner, and the bio-technicians." The teacher said, not that excitedly.
The boredom in his mentor's voice made him drift from the conversation. He had heard everything before. In short, the facility would be explored in divisions, but the students were not allowed to touch or modify anything. Only see, ask and understand.
After what seemed like 20 minutes, the driver started calling names. He approached the lady calmly. The scan let out a ding and he almost jumped inside the vehicle. It's size resembling the old models of buses back when androids were only a dream thing. At least that's what everyone told him. He took a seat and relaxed. His hoodie, pants, boots and even shirt were wet from the rain. Which was hammering down on the roof of the bus, reminding him of the smell that wet grass usually released.
The day had turned into a mix of purple and blue, covered mostly by grey. It was already nighttime in Old Seoul.
"Does anyone know at what time we are arriving?" A student, maybe from his basic programming class, asked suddenly.
"3:30 am" Taehyung mumbled out.
His mood seemed to match the weather. It was rare for him to leave town and mostly without Jimin or one of his family members.
The bus exploded into chatter once the doors closed and the vehicle was in motion. Taehyung could hear the gentle roar of the motor from where he sat. His view showing the small restaurants that stood next to the station.
He closed his eyes and allowed himself to relax.
"It's only 4 days" He mumbled before falling asleep.
His body was gently shaken awake.
"We reached the checkpoint, you have to wake up" The gentle whisper of one of his classmates reached him.
He opened his eyes and looked around.
They were in fact in the main checkpoint of New Hong Kong. The bus was lit up with blue and magenta. The huge Welcome sign not really serving its purpose. The seven lines were filled with cars of all size and colors. However, he could still see the neon signs that shone under the cars indicating if the booths were open or closed.
"Thanks," He said rather clumsily as he looked back at his classmate.
Just then, a woman with a police uniform goes inside the vehicle. The scanner in her hand way bigger than the one he saw back at the station.
"Please have your IDs at hand and no metal object in your pockets. Thank you." The woman said in a very nasally voice.
Taehyung swore he could hear her gum meddling in between her teeth from where he sat.
"Arms up!" The lady ordered.
He calmly put his hands up. The scanner slowly made its way to him.
"ID, please," The lady said.
Her face was scrunching over as she chewed. All and all, she chewed like a cow. That's what Taehyung could really take away from the small interaction.
