The next few weeks passed quickly as Dan and Phil spent every moment possible together. They went to the movies, to restaurants, and showed each other their favorite places in London. Phil dragged Dan to art museums and Dan dragged Phil to free concerts in various parks.
Dan officially dropped out of university. His parents were pretty understanding about the whole thing, telling Dan that it was his life to do as he wished, even if that meant screwing it up. Now Dan was taking classes at a small school in business and music history to increase his skillset. It worked out perfectly, when Dan was at his classes or his new job at a coffee shop Phil was able to finish his artwork.
They spent nights mostly in Dan’s flat, as Phil’s was too messy for Dan to deal with. In return Phil would often cook for Dan and helped with occasional household chores. Phil even had a key to Dan’s and his own drawer. In short, they did everything most lovers do except kissing and sex.
Now it was approaching Christmas time and both boys were getting caught up in the spirit.
“Phil!” Dan squealed as he jumped into Phil’s lap one day after getting home from class. “I have the most amazing idea!”
Phil looked at Dan warily, “Is it safe?”
“Of course it is. Where would you get the idea that it wouldn’t be?” Dan returned.
“Well, there was that one-”
“Phil,” Dan interjected covering Phil’s mouth, “we agreed to never speak of that again.”
Phil just raised his eyebrows.
“I promise it’s nothing like that,” Dan conceded. “However, I kind of want it to be a surprise.”
Phil quickly shook his head, making sounds of protest from under Dan’s hand.
“Come on Phil. It will be super fun!” Dan gave Phil puppy dog eyes. “Please!”
Sighing, Phil gave a slight nod.
“Yay! Thank you so much, you’re going to love it.” Dan removed his hand from Phil’s mouth and wrapped the older boy in a tight hug.
“I better.” Phil said desperately trying to not fall under the spell of Dan’s enthusiasm.
“Oh I’m sure it’ll be amazing.” Dan exclaimed, his warm breath hitting Phil’s neck from their hug position. Leaning back Dan smiled at Phil before planting a big kiss on his cheek. “I can’t wait,” he said softly before climbing off Phil’s lap. “I’ve got some planning to do.” Dan called over his shoulder. “It shouldn’t take long, I’ll be back out in a few minutes.”
“Okay,” Phil softly replied once Dan had left the room, still feeling the ghost of a kiss on his check and a beautiful boy who seemed oblivious to his feelings.
