Cody's POV
I got about four hours of sleep that night. Natalie, my little sister, had been screaming all night, crying because she had lost her two favorite dolls in school earlier that day. In my opinion she should just suck it up and be more careful. I had drowned out her cries with Netflix and ended up watching 'Call me by your name'.
I had heard some of the girls talk about it at the end of math not too long ago and according to them, it was good. I had to admit, it was good. It wasn't what I had expected. It was better. If I told the boys that I had watched this movie, they would most likely beat me up or laugh at me... or both.
They strongly believed that anything remotely homosexual was a crime. The movie ended and I turned off the tv and looked to the clock. It was about two in the morning. I snuggled down under the covers and was out like a light.
The next morning went by like always. Got up at six and got ready before anyone else in the house. That way, when they all got up at seven, I would already be out the door.
I looked to the time as I was tying my shoes. It was seven and as if a timer had gone off, footsteps sounded upstairs. I quickly grabbed my keys and slipped out the back door. I walked through the garden and into the forest. Only when I couldn't see the house anymore, did I slow down.
I walked slowly and found myself looking around for the stag. I didn't see it and when I arrived at the school, my mood was the same as always. Sour.
I stalked over the courtyard and walked in through the tall doors. I went directly to my locker and practically shoved my bag into it. I just wanted to get to class as fast as possible and avoid bumping into Chester or any of the other boys.
I managed to avoid them and made it to physics class safely. I took a seat and sunk down, preparing myself for the most boring class of the bunch.
After a bit and the class had filled, the bell rang, and people took their seats. We waited but there didn't seem to be any teacher. I didn't really care. Mr. Allen was never late, but today, it seemed as though he hadn't even planned on showing up.
After about fifteen minutes, someone went out to find Mr. Allen, or at least someone who knew where he was. Turned out Mr. Allen had caught some terrible disease, which everyone knew was a simple cold, and had to stay home. He had then forgotten to notify anyone so that a substitute teacher could stand in, and by the time everything had been figured out, the class was almost over.
I just got up and left. What a waste of time. I stepped out of class and turned to walk back to my locker when the world turned upside down and spun. I landed on the floor, the air getting knocked out of me. I had tripped over something and now laid on the ground, an ego probably more wounded that my physical body.
"What the fuck?" I groaned, sitting up to look back at what I had tripped over. Who the fuck just sits in the middle of a hallway?!
When I looked back, I saw none other than that tall boy from yesterday. His eyes being the first I saw. They shone with worry and... pity? I scoffed.
"Are you ok?" He asked.
The question was simple enough yet annoyed the ever living fuck out of me.
I realized I was just staring at him and cleared my throat.
"What the fuck were you doing, sitting in the middle of the hallway?" I asked, making him tilt his head like a curious puppy.
I then saw the papers and books all over the place. He had dropped them and was in the middle of picking them up when I just... tripped over him.
"looks like you fell for m- "I cut him off he could finish the joke. "Finish that sentence, I dare you" I growled.
He closed his mouth, grinning. I shuffled to a sit, rubbing my chest a bit.
"you didn't answer my question" His voice was soft, making images of a calm summer evening flash through my brain. I looked at him with a squint.
"I'm fine" I muttered. He smiled and grabbed the last couple of books before standing up. I just watched him. His movements were gentle and controlled, despite his lanky noodle like structure. I would've imagined him flopping about like a fish out of water, but apparently that wasn't the case.
He stretched a hand towards me to help me to a stand. I blinked, staring at it.
"What, do I have something under my nails?" He asked, looking at his nails with a worried glance.
I snorted something that could've been a laugh and stood on my own. He looked to me with furrowed brows and a little pout.
"nothings up with your nails" I rolled my eyes. "just don't sit in the middle of the hallways in the future"
Without another word, I turned and walked off down the hall. I knew he just stood there, since I didn't hear him walk off. I headed off to my locker with a small sigh.
Maybe I actually was an asshole...
Scratch that, I'm an asshole.
