During morning practice, Tobio and Shoyo had come up to me, asking if I wanted to come help them convince the ace to join the team again. According to Suga, Yuu said he refuses to play any other matches if the ace doesn't. The two idiots practically sprinted to the third year classrooms, almost bumping into several people.
"I'd just get in everybody's way." A voice said, coming closer to the door.
"But Asahi, we have an amazing setter this year, and a formidable decoy too. Even a new manager who is amazing at coming up with plays and figuring out the defense's weakness." I heard Suga plead.
A third year walking in front of me to peak his head into the door and call for the ace to head to the faculty office. A tall, rough looking guy walked out of the classroom with the third year setter, and he looked familiar.
"Oh, I ran into you on my first day! I didn't know you were the ace!" I unintentionally said outloud.
The ace turned around, noticing Tobio, Shoyo and I.
"Eh? What are you three doing here?" Suga asked.
"Shoyo and Tobio wanted to meet the ace." I told him.
"Oh. Well, Asahi, meet two of our first years, Kageyama and Hinata. And this is Haruka, our new manager." Suga introduced us, and the three of us bowed.
I scanned my eyes over the tough-looking third year. He was shorter that Kei, but much more muscular and broad. Even just from a glance I could tell his spikes would be powerful.
Asahi put his hand on Shoyo's shoulder. "Do your best."
The ginger looked at him confused. "Aren't you playing too? I want to be the ace eventually, so I have to watch the current ace play, right?"
Asahi looked back at us with a slight smile, even though his eyes held sadness. "I'm no ace."
"Sugawara-senpai, is he injured or something?" Tobio asked.
Suga shook his head. "No... I just think he doesn't have the confidence in himself to play volleyball anymore."
"Whaaat?! But he's the ace and he's super tall! Why?" Shoyo asked in confusion.
"He was the tallest on the team and had spikes that gave us many points, but..." Suga trailed off.
"Was he defeated?" I finally spoke up.
"There was a match in which all his spikes were blocked. He's the type to shoulder all the blame." He sighed.
We said our goodbyes, and Tobio, Shoyo and I jogged back towards the gym.
I noticed a look on Shoyo's face. "Is something wrong?"
"Would you stop liking volleyball because of something like that?" He asked.
"There had to have been other reasons." Tobio suggested.
"Like what?" The ginger and I both turned to look at the tallest of us three.
"I'm not sure." He said. "But I know he doesn't hate volleyball."
When we got into the gym, I saw Yuu showing everyone how to do his special recieve. "Rolling Thundeeeeeer!!!" He cried, doing a roll and receiving the ball, making in land straight into the bin.
Ryuu, Tadashi and Kei bursted out laughing, as Tobio and Suga looked dumbfounded. I struggled to hold in my own giggles. "Augh, you first years! I'll lecture all of you! Get below my line of sight!"
Shoyo jumped up and down as Tobio help him back. "Senpai! Teach me Rolling Thunder!"
"Everyone!" Takeda-sensei called from the gym door. "I've got great news!"
We all huddled around Sensei. "We're doing Golden Week training camp this year, aren't we?"
Daichi nodded. "We still need a lot of practice."
"Well, I managed to schedule a practice match for the end of the week!" Sensei smiled.
"Woo! Way to go, Take-chan!" Ryuu cheered.
"Who are we playing?" Suga asked.
"Nekoma High School."
"Neko?"
"We've heard a lot about them." Ryuu told Shoyo. "Our former coach and their's were rivals."
"Woah!" Shoyo's eyes glimmered.
"Yeah. Those famous matches were called "Cat vs Crow, Battle at the Garbage Dump.""
"You sure those were famous?" Kei asked from beside Suga.
"Haven't they refused to play is for a while now, though?" Daichi asked Takeda-sensei.
"I just had to do arrange a rematch of destiny. Hopefully he'll be willing to join now when he hears who our opponent is." I turned to Takeda-sensei, knowing he was talking about Ukai-San.
"All right, we better get fired up!" Daichi shouted.
"Yosh!" Everyone responded.
"Tokyo, eh?" Tanaka put his hand to his chin. "I'll smash those city boys."
Kei, Dominic and I all laughed. "Shitty boys."
"I'm sorry Daichi-San, but I'm not playing in the practice match if Asahi isn't." Yuu informed the captain. "Those first years are a force to be reckoned with. And our two new second years are going to be major help. The team is headed in a great direction. I want to train with you guys, but if we won without Asahi-San, it would prove we wouldn't need him anymore."
Daichi seemed shocked at how Yuu was handling the whole situation.
"I'm sorry if I seem like I'm being difficult." He turned back to the captain.
"That's fine, but you're coming to the training camp with us." Daichi chuckled.
I ran up and gave Yuu a big hug, and he flushed red. "I think that's a really manly thing for you to do, you know. I can tell that you really look up to Asahi."
"Noya-San! Teach me Rolling Thunder! Please, pretty please!" Shoyo bounced on his toes.
Yuu smiled a bit and I smiled back.
When practice was over, I got a text from my online friend.
