**Surrounded by people and their noise, I sat alone. The din drowned out my racing thoughts, and for a few moments my breathing slowed and my mind cleared. Who knew peace could emerge in the middle of an uproar? It was exactly what I needed because...**

this race was a big one. 

After years of trying everything I could to be here, this was it, my first race as a professional driver. It didn't matter what place I came in, as long as it wasn't last. I had to prove that I belonged here. Oh, and not wreck the car. Definitely couldn't wreck the car. That actually needed to be top priority...

Now, where was I? Oh! Right! Peace! I took in another deep breath and slowly released it as I tightened my grip on the wheel. I allowed myself to take in the magnitude of the uproar from the crowd before tuning it out again. Any second, the race would be starting and it would be noting but me, the car, and the track. Well, that's if you don't count the other drivers, their cars, and the crowd, of course.

"Jodie, you ready for this?" Andy, my crew chief, brought me back.

"I was born ready." I smiled as I spoke to him in the headset. 

"Okay, kid, just remember, while winning would be awesome the most important thing..."

"Is to not wreck the car and make Loughlin regret giving me a chance. Andy, I've got this!"

"I suppose you do. Here comes the countdown to start behind the pace car. Have fun!" 

He had no idea just how much fun I planned to have with this...
