A/N: No school today and yesterday because of Hurricane Sandy... so because I love you guys so much, I've been writing pretty much BOTH days and I have another chappie for you!! :) I really should be working on my English essay that is due tomorrow, but I'm such a procrastinator and I just couldn't leave Kitty and Jake :P I hope you enjoy and I want you to know that I appreciate and love (not to be creepy) every single person who gives IAOT a chance. Thank you. <3
I stand slightly behind Jake, so nervous that I am shaking slightly. His mom has sort of a classic beauty, the type that as she aged, she just got more pretty. She looks up from the papers she is going through and smiles warmly at us. Jake's dad is a tall, burly man with dark hair. He looks like a protector, someone who would do anything to keep the people he loves safe. He is on the phone with someone and his booming voice fills the kitchen. He has small wrinkles around his eyes that were obviously creased there from laughter and smiling.
When he hangs up the phone he walks over to his wife and places his hands on the back of her chair. It's a small gesture, but I can tell that he really cares about her. Jake coughs softly and rubs his thumb over the back of my hand to give me reassurance and calm me down. "You must be Katherine, we've heard so much about you dear," Jake's mom stands and walks over to shake my hand. Her grip is firm and warm. "It's nice to finally meet you,"
I give her a grin and glance at Jake, whose mouth is turned slightly upwards. "It's nice to meet you too,"
"I haven't introduced myself, have I?" she chuckles to herself and shakes her head slightly. "I'm Nancy and this," she says pointing to Jake's dad, "Is David," He waves from behind her and I smile gently at him. "Come, sit down," Nancy pulls two chairs out from the table for Jake and I to sit down.
This isn't as bad as I thought that it was going to be... but then come the grilling questions. Well, I guess they aren't that horrible, but I don't really enjoy talking about myself. "So, Katherine, how long have you lived here?"
"All my life, I can't wait to get out of her and travel though," I answer honestly. I have always wanted to travel the world, but I know that I'll probably never have enough money to.
Nancy nods. They continue asking questions about my life, interests, hobbies, and then my family. When these questions come up, I get anxious. Jake doesn't know about my parents and I don't want him to know. I'm not ready for him to. I feel terrible lying to everyone, but I have to. It's my only choice. I tell them that my parents are great and that I had a good childhood and I had the best family that anyone could ask for. Bull shit. Bull shit. Bull shit.
After they are done with the questions, Nancy grins. "Well, we'll leave you two to yourselves now," she and David stand up. David is the quiet type and Nancy is very talkative, they balance each other out. "You seem like a very nice girl and I'm glad that Jake has met you," she leaves us with that and they walk upstairs.
I turn to Jake and let out a huge breath that I hadn't even realized that I had been holding. "They like you," he whispers to me and gives me a hug. "You did great,"
I look at him dead in the eyes to make sure that he isn't just saying that. "Really?" he nods his head and I can tell that he is telling me the truth. A smile breaks onto my face. "Good, I was so nervous that they wouldn't approve of me,"
"They have no reason to dislike you," he kisses my cheek and I feel warmth running from his lips out to cover me. I am blushing slightly.
"Now, what exactly did you tell them about me?" I ask. He couldn't have thought that I was going to let him get away with that quite so easily.
He laughs softly. "Just that you're amazing and super pretty and that I really, really, really like you," with every 'really, he moves a bit closer to me and after he finishes his sentence, he pecks my lips softly. I smile and pull away as he leans in for more. He twirls the ends of my hair around his fingers and I can still feel his lips on mine.
