Breaking news: Havoc spotted causing trouble at a school's chemistry lab. The lab was set on fire which brings out the question. Is fire one of his supernatural abilities?

The news reporter then started blabbering about some conspiracy theories before the camera moved to a flying figure.

"You don't need fire powers to start a fire in a school!" yelled the flying person.

Havoc.

I bit back a laugh at his antics. How can a supervillain be such a dork?

Mom watched me with a questioning gaze.

"Since when do you watch the news?" she asked weirded out.

"Ever since I made it there and you switched off the TV before I could see whether I looked good on cam or not.." I grumbled. My mother sighed.

"Go get dressed for school," she muttered. You'd think that the school would give us a break after the fire that took place but no. They don't care about us as much as they claim they do.

I nodded before I stood on my feet and placed a peck on her cheek while she shooed me away with a smile on her face.

"So," Layla started. I gave her a questioning glance.

"What do you think about skipping school for the day?" she smiled innocently.

I narrowed my eyes at her. Layla always had to skip school at least once a week. However, she miraculously made it today and now she's proposing that we skip.

"What's the occasion?"

"Well. I suddenly don't feel like studying."

"And what will I get out of this?" I asked.

She smirked. "We'll go to my house. Guess who's back in town?"

"Who?" I asked unsure.

"August King. Your favorite."

August King just so happened to be Layla's cousin. There's no denying that he's an eye candy, but his secretive nature is enough to make me dislike being graced by his presence. It's not that he does anything necessarily bad, he's just too quiet and perceptive that I'm too afraid to say something as simple as "how are you" to him for the fear of him knowing that I'm only doing it out of courtesy rather than me actually caring about his well-being.

I groaned. "The more the reason not to come."

"Oh shut up. Come on, I'll even get you your favorite red velvet cake from the café right around the corner of my house!"

My ears perked up at that.

"You promise I won't regret it?"

"You won't!"

Needless to say, we ended up heading towards her house like there's no tomorrow.

As soon as I stepped foot into the house, I let out a yelp as I was met with the sight of August leaning against the counter with a cup of coffee in his grasp.

"Good morning," he greeted.

I nodded in return. August was indeed a heavenly sight for the eye. Dark brown hair that would occasionally fall on his forehead and glistening curious hazel eyes. His sharp jawline that could slice through 10 apples at once and deep dimple on his right cheek when he smiles all contributed to girls trying to befriend Layla just to get into her cousin's pants.

"My lovely cousin! How great it is to see you here!" Layla exclaimed.

August snorted. "You've been saying that every time you see me since yesterday."

August was a first-year college student majoring in Computer Science which explains why he is still at home at this time of the day.

"When is your first class?" Layla asked.

"11," he nodded at the clock.

"So you got an hour and a half to spend with us," she smirked. August shook his head.

"I only got back a day ago so I'd rather rest in my room," he said as he took off to his room upstairs, "nice to see you again, Aurelia."

I gaped at his retreating figure before I looked back at a sighing Layla.

"He's too lazy."

I snickered.

"Cut him some slack. He did say he just got here yesterday," I said trying to lighten up her disappointment. Layla and August were extremely close to each other seeing as they both had no siblings. August's parents are consistently on business trips and he leaves every now and then to stay with them. He just got back from his short trip to see them so it wasn't surprising that he'd rather slouch in his room than spend his time humoring us.

"But I wanted to let him treat us to buy you the red velvet cake!" she complained.

So that's what it was all about.

I narrowed my eyes at her. "You should fulfill your promises without using other people," I scolded.

She quirked up an eyebrow. "Do I look like someone who plays fair?" she asked.

"Good point," and before I knew it, she was running up the stairs and barging into the poor guy's room.

"If you don't get up I will plaster your baby pictures all over your college and post them all over the internet for the world to see!"

"You wouldn't," he said as he sat up in his bed.

She smirked. "My favorite picture of you in a pot on the stov-"

He groaned, "You're so annoying, you know that?" he grumbled which only made her smirk widen.

Needless to say, we ended up at Luna's Pastry with him trailing behind.

"How do you keep up with her?" he asked as we sat in one of the tables while Layla left to make our order.

I shrugged.

"You're complaining now but we all know you wouldn't change a thing about her," I responded. His lips slightly perked up at that.

"Our parents are both very busy people so we basically only have each other," he said.

I was about to say something back when he continued, "and you."

"Pardon?"

"She has you too which I guess is something that I should thank you for. I'm not always available for her to bother so it's good that she has someone else to put up with," he explained.

That was the most I've ever heard from him and I couldn't help the smile that crept up my face at the compliment.

"I'm really thankful for her too."

I could feel the relief radiating from him over my friendship with Layla. They may not show it but their siblings bond is stronger than any actual siblings'.

"You can have your wallet back," came Layla's voice as she placed the plates of cake in front of us.

August turned towards her with a glare. "How did you even take it?"

Layla snickered.

"A magician never reveals his secrets."
