Lucas stood underneath Max as she fell faster and faster. She reached Lucas and they both fell to the ground in each other's arms. Lucas hugged Max and wiped tears from her eyes. "You're ok.. you're safe now. "
Max said nothing, resting her head against Lucas and closing her eyes. She took a deep breath in and sighed, looking down to the floor. Are you hurt?" Lucas asked. 'I- I'm fine..' She replied. "You sure?" 'I said I'm fine..' "Max... I know you're hurt. You can't even look at me" 'Lucas, I'm fi-' "Max stand up. Please.." Max let go of Lucas and attempted to stand up, it took her a lot of strength to get off the ground and she winced as she put her left leg down. "Are you still sure you're fine?" 'It- it's just my leg and my back. Just hurts a little, that's all' Lucas stood up and put his arm around Max "I think we should go to the.. hospital.. nevermind. I just remembered what happened there..." He looked over at Mike 'I'll take Max back to my house. Are you gonna be okay here?' Lucas asked. "We'll be fine" Mike replied, kneeling down to El who was still unconscious.
"You can't walk back, we'll take you. Is that okay with everyone?" Steve asked. The others nodded and Robin walked over to Lucas and Max 'need some help?' Lucas and Robin helped Max walk to the door with Steve in front.
As they got to the exit, they noticed the door was shut and Billy was guarding it 'You can't leave. Not now.'"Just let us go!" Lucas ordered. Billy remained silent, standing firmly infront of the door. 'Billy, please. For your sister' Max pleaded. "Step sister. You're not my sister. Never were and never will be." 'Billy just let us go. Can't you see what you've done? Please, don't let that thing tell you want to do. This isn't you, I know you. You're not like this, Billy. Please, just step away from the door and let us g-' "Get out of my face" Billy whispered. Max stood frozen, looking into Billy's eyes with tears running down her cheeks. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Billy was an asshole to her a lot of the time but he has never said something so shallow and upsetting. She slowly backed away, ignoring her leg and limping helplessly. "Max, it's not Billy talking, remember that. Cmon, we can go out another way" Lucas said, putting his hand on Max's shoulder. 'No I- it's fine.. we'll stay' "But Max your leg-" 'I'll be fine. We might need to help here anyways' Lucas nodded and helped Max over to a bench. Everyone had been distracted by Max's injuries. Or.. almost everyone. The attention was turned away from her when a sound echoed through the mall. Someone sniffling and quietly sobbing.
