The shadow was followed by another 3, walking through the mall with flashlights that were dimmed by the smoke. One of the shadows grew closer, slowing down as it got near El. The firefighter knelt down infront of her and scooped her up into his arms. He ran out of the burning building, carrying El to safety. He approached Mike, looking down at Eleven. Mike froze. He didn't want to believe what he was seeing. His jaw dropped and his eyes widened like never before. 'El...' He trembled, placing his hand on El's cheek. "Mike..?" She opened her eyes slightly, wincing as she tried to lift her head. Mike was scared and broken, but he knew he had to stay strong. For El. 'Hey. You're gonna be ok, just try not to move, alright?' "Ok" As El was carried away to an ambulance, Mike couldn't hold in his emotions anymore. Hopper put his hand on Mike's shoulder, standing beside him. Mike hugged him for a long time, crying in his arms. The two may not see eye-to-eye in most situations, but this time they had something in common. Even Hopper had a tear running down his cheek as he watched his daughter struggle to breathe. It would be a long drive to the hospital, since the one in Hawkins is practically destroyed. Everyone gathered around Mike and Hopper, hoping for a miracle. A miracle in which El would be ok. They all knew how unlikely that would be, but they couldn't give up so soon. If not for El, then for Hopper and Mike.
---2 weeks later---
"Jane you have a visitor" a nurse opened the door. 'Guess who' she smiled as Mike placed a bouquet of flowers beside her bed next to the many other vases of flowers. "Are you really going to bring flowers every time you visit me?" El laughed 'for as long as you're here' He smiled back at her and kissed her on the cheek. 'How are you today?' "I was ok" She paused "-but now I'm great" 'Have they been taking good care of you here?' "You ask me this every day" 'but have they?' "Yes, Mike. They have" 'Good. Just wanted to make sure my El was getting the very best care' Mike looked around at the various machinery in room. At the various wires sprouting from these machines. All leading to El. He had no clue what any of them did, but, they were helping. He knew that. 'So how long until you can leave this place and I can actually hug you?' She sighed "I don't know. I heard one of the doctors say atleast another week... I hope it's not that long though" Mike saw the bandages wrapped around his girlfriend, on her leg, around her waist, on her head. She met his eyes and shrugged, seeing the concern in his face. 'Well, what matters is that you're ok' He kissed her again, on the lips this time. It was the first time he had done it since the incident, he couldn't get close enough before. He may not be able to hug her, and she may not be very strong now, but at least she was safe.
