"Come on in, I'll let my son explain everything he didn't already say," His dad said I realized where he got his kindness from, but today it was not there. I walked into a house which looked like it was recently burned in a fire. It smelt like burnt rubber. What happened in here I thought?
"He's in here he said pointing at the door," I slowly took that as a hint to go. I walked scared my hand stopping ready to knock. I slowly knocked.
"What do you want?!" I heard screaming on the other side of the door. The door slammed open. I saw his blood shot eyes which bore into mine. What had happened to him since he left?
"What do you want?" He said in a dead tone. At least he wasn't yelling.
"Can I come in.. please Travis," A hint of regret of ever coming to California creeping into my voice. I started to walk through his door, but his hand layed on my shoulder. It stopped me dead in my tracks. He was looking dead at me with a look in his eyes I've never seen before.
"Go! Now!" He said his voice rising in tone and strength. I backed away his hand falling off my shoulder. His face was getting pale. He was coughing horribly. What was going on. His parents arms came on my shoulder.
"We got to go know! Ben, call the ambulance its getting worse!" His mom walked me fast to my car. What was going on, what did she mean by its getting worse. What was wrong with Travis? She jumped in the driver's seat.
"Get in, I have to get you away from the house now!" She said rushing everything. I jumped in the passenger side. She put the car in drive, and we drove fast down the street. She slowed down only to turn. We soon turned down into a vacant park away from town. "Come on I got to explain everything first.." She said stepping out of the car. The wind was going crazy outside like it was mimicking my emotions. She walked over to a wooden bench that set under a large oak tree. It was quiet all around.
"I remember the day I found out, Travis had just went to go get tests run. He wasn't feeling well he said. He waited months to get the results back, and they didn't come back good. He turned out to have lung cancer. Before he left to move to Georgia. Our house had caught on fire. We could never afford to fix the damages. Not enough insurance could pay for it to be fixed. He lived with us weeks after the house was damaged. I noticed he had trouble breathing alot. He was coughing all the time. I didn't think of it at the time, but soon it came to my realization that he couldn't live in all the conditions that was around him. So I sent him to live with his aunt and uncle. They took real good care of him. But one day starting this year he constantly had trouble breathing. He tried to keep it under control when he was around people. He keep getting worse. His aunt finally made him go to the doctor. He ended up being tested for cancer. The doctors were hoping it wasn't what they thought it was.. But the tests came back positive. He was diagnosed with lung cancer. He had to leave Georgia, they said he only had maybe a few months in the least to live. He wanted to stay with you,but he didn't bear for you to see him like this so he set on his way to California. He didn't want to hurt you if he died after you and him got closer. It has been two months since he left. He keep getting worse. He refused to take the drugs and cemo the doctors tried to give him. He wanted to die," He said tears falling slowly from her eyes. I scooted closer to her on the bench and hugged her. She was sobbing. I felt tears from my own eyes fall. We stood there crying over her son,and my boyfriend.
The next day I woke up having the urge to go to the hospital. If he was going to have a 50/50 chance of living. I wanted to see him before I didn't have the choice.I got up and just pulled on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. I walked out the door. To the car,and headed on the way to the hospital I figured he would be at.
