"So? Are we gonna go in or not?" Roman huffed, "we can't", Patton retorted, "he's locked his door".

They were all sitting on the kitchen counter, For once the, fanciful side, the fatherly side, and the logical side had the same goal in mind; figuring out what was wrong with their friend. And fixing it. "then we just need the key, who did Virgil entrust his room's key with?"

All the sides had a key in which others could use to get into the other's room- but was only to be used in an emergency, which, all the sides agreed this was. Still none of the sides revealed to the others that they had the key, which meant that either Virgil had hidden it somewhere, or it was still entrusted with one of the dark sides, as it physically couldn't be in Virgil's room, Logan deducted.
As none of the sides wanted to venture into the darker corners of Thomas' mind, they all agreed to start searching around the common room for a suitable hiding place for Virgil's key. They searched for an hour, finding nothing but a few lost items, there was a particularly exciting moment when Patton let out a squeal, and everyone rushed over to see what he had found and were spectacularly disappointed when Patton revealed a dog plushie he had lost a week ago.

Finally accepting the fact that the key was not kept in the common room, they began to brainstorm on which dark side Virgil had entrusted his key with. Well, Logan did most of the brainstorming.
They settled on Deceit, on the basis that Virgil and Deceit had been quite close before Virgil became a light side. Slowly they made their way towards Deceit's room. Patton mumbling, to himself all the way, clearly not excited about going to room of the side that stood against everything he was.

Lying is bad.

Their eyes lingered on Virgil's door as they passed it and ventured down the corridor for the first time in ages towards the corner of the mindscape specially reserved for the dark sides. Finally, the came across the door with the simple design of a double headed snake printed onto it. Roman knocked. They waited, feeling out of place, here, waiting for the lying side to open the door.
Finally, the lying side, Deceit, opened the door. "to what do I owe the pleasure?" he said, setting eyes on the three light sides standing before him. Roman not wanting to sick around for long and also thinking of writing this into his adventure diary said:
"we need the key to Virgil's room, do you have it or not' hearing this Deceit's eyes lit up 'and why do you need such a.... Valued item?' he drawled, Patton shivered, he really didn't like deceit.
"none of your business, just give us the key, Virgil wouldn't want you to have it anymore anyway" Roman said, close to spitting into Deceit's face. "How Hurtful! Well if Virgil doesn't want me to be the keeper of his key anymore, then he can take it from me himself" Deceit hissed.
Roman gasped "so you do have it!",
Deceit chuckled, removing a dark ornate purple key from his pocket, and said to the others "very well, I will open the door for you, as I know you will only keep bothering me about it, But I keep the key."

Although Roman didn't like the fact of walking side by side with Deceit all the way back to Virgil's room, he agreed, as this was a much better deal than he had hoped for.

They walked back in silence. As they finally got back to the door after a tense few minutes of walking. Deceit managed to make a big deal of simply putting the key into the keyhole, while Patton knocked on Virgil's Door and called out; "We're coming in Kiddo, we have the key, please don't kick us out again..." and other reassuring things. Finally, the door clicked open, Deceit quickly pocketed the key and stalked of, his yellow eye glinting in the light.

Slowly the door swung open to reveal Virgil's room, pitch black, even the light of the corridor couldn't penetrate it.

They took their first step forward.
