I looked at myself in the mirror and groaned. My hair was curled and sprayed with too much hair spray, makeup was caked on my face, my dress was too tight, and my leather jacket was too stiff. The only good thing about my appearance were my shoes, which were my black combat boots. They were my babies.

I looked around my room. Clothes were scattered everywhere. The clutter was so bad that I could just barely see the carpet. I groaned, knowing I was going to have to clean the whole thing later. I looked back at my reflection.

"Emma," I whined to my best friend, "I don't want to go!"

"Oh shush," she replied from the bathroom. "It's not that bad."

"But why do I have to wear a dress? And why do I have to have my hair and makeup done?"

"Because it's a party, and casual wear isn't acceptable. Also, you agreed to go to this."

"Against my will."

"But you're still going."

"But a lot of people from school are going to be there, and I'm going to be all awkward around them," I said as I stopped my foot.

"It's not my fault my brother is popular," Emma said as she brushed blush onto her face.

"Don't forget that you're also popular," I said.

"But this is my brother's party."

Why couldn't we just here?" I asked.

"Because my parents said that Cameron couldn't throw a party if I wasn't there," she explained.

"And you just went along with it?" I raised an eyebrow.

"He paid me one hundred bucks."

"That explains it. But your parents just went along with it?"

"He said there wouldn't be any drugs or alcohol or inappropriate sexual actions."

"Stupid lair. I'm not going."

"Yeah, my parents trust him too much. But c'mon Bella. It'll be fun. And you'll probably meet some cute guys." She wiggled her eyebrows.

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, like they'll come after me."

Emma clicked her tongue. "You never know..."

I looked at her sternly in the eye. "Oh, but I do. I've never been asked out and never been kissed. I'm not the kind of girl guys come after, okay?"

Emma pressed her lips together looked down. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.

Emma knew that I was pretty insecure about myself. But it was true, I was just the friend of the hot girl called Emma. Emma was the one to get all the guys' attention. I admit, I'm kind of jealous by it, but after four years of being her best friend, I've gotten used to it.

Emma walked over to me and hugged me. "That's just because guys are too stupid to realize how amazing you are."

I stood awkwardly in a corner of the living room. The room was dark and there were colorful lights all over. People were grinding on each other, the was alcohol everywhere, and I'm pretty sure people were smoking pot in the bathroom. This was so not my scene.

Emma jumped in front of me and grabbed my shoulders. "What are you doing woman?!" she yelled.

I jumped and placed my hand over my heart. "Jesus Christ, are you trying to kill me?"

"Well, you're already dying of boredom," she said. "Why aren't you having fun?"

I groaned. "I told you, I hate parties."
