HAYDEN'S POV
Summer had gone by too fast. It had literally seemed that just yesterday was the last day of school. I knew summer never stayed around for long but I didn't expect it to fly by so quick.
The realization had only sunk in when it was the last day of summer break.
I had decided that I was going to enjoy the last day as much as possible.
I brewed myself a cup of Folgers coffee and brought the steaming cup upstairs and grabbed my favorite blanket from the couch before heading up.
I walked carefully up the flight of wooden stairs, trying my hardest not to drop the cup. As soon as I reached the top, I headed for my room. I didn't have to walk that far, considering my room was directly across from the top of the stairs.
I jumped onto my bed (of course after I put my coffee down) and put my blanket down on my legs because that was the only part of me that was cold.
I cursed to myself when I finally realized that I had to get up to get a book from my bookshelf.
I picked out the book I've been reading and the one I'm obsessed with, The Fault In Our Stars by: John Green. I've seen the movie with Kasey a few months ago but just purchased the book a few weeks ago.
This book has been glued to my hand the moment I read the first sentence. I open the book to where my bookmark was placed and read the first word when, "We're only getting older baby and I've been thinking about it lately, does it ever drive you crazy just how fast the night changes? Everything that you ever dreamed of, disappearing when you wake up, but there's nothing to be afraid of even when the night changes, it will never change me and you" started playing. I pick up my phone and see Kasey's face on my screen. "You've got to be fucking kidding?!"
I roll my eyes as I swipe to answer. I put my phone up to me ear and say; "Hello, you've reached the Hayden residence. Sorry I didn't answer but right now, I'm just trying to enjoy my last day of summer break and quite frankly, I don't want to hear about your problems. Leave a message after the beep. Beeeeeeeeeeeeep."
"Shut the hell up, Hayden. I need your help."
"Well, hello to you too, Kas." I say sarcastically. "What's up?"
"I need your help deciding what I should wear tomorrow. I sent the pictures on our Kindle chat."
While she's still talking, I put her on speaker and get up to get my Kindle from my desk and come back to the bed. I unlock it and go under our messages that we barely use and sure enough, there's the 3 outfits. The first outfit was a black crop tank top paired with a floral skirt, a beige cardigan sweater, black combat boots and a black hat.
The second outfit was a Weekend Warrior t-shirt paired with jean shorts, a few bracelets and open-toed sandals.
The third outfit was a dress from American Eagle. The top was a navy blue color, a blue bow separated the bottom from the top which was a alternating blue and red stripe pattern. She paired it with navy blue hair bows, pearl earrings and red flats.
"Did you get the pictures?" I hear Kasey ask. "Yea. I'm looking at them now." I say. "So, help me." I laugh a little as I lay my head down on my pillow.
"Out of the outfits, what says; Hey, I'm Kasey Daniels, I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty but I clean up good, I'm not a sleeze but I like to show skin, I'm not a brain but I do have decent grades, I'm not popular but I have close best friends and most importantly- Kameron Wells, you should date me."
I couldn't help but laugh at her but after thinking about it for a bit, I tell her, "Definitely not #3. You're gonna be so uncomfortable the whole day and you'll look like an attention seeker."
"Okay, makes sense." She agrees.
"Number 1 is totally something I'd wear which is why I have no idea why you'd put this as an option- we have 2 totally different styles." I say.
"I know, but..." She pauses.
"Yes?"
"You have a hipster, rock, punk, indie style and you listen to Green Day, Nirvana, All Time Low... who else?"
"You Met At Six, A Day To Remember, Anarbor, Rocket To The Moon, Forever The Sickest Kids, Blink-182, The Cab, Good Charolette, Mayday Parade, GooGoo Dolls, My Chemical Romance." I jump in.
"Yea, them." She answers, not knowing who they are.
"You're a rocker chick and so many guys find that hot. And I think Kameron likes those kinds of bands and I have no idea who he's talking about. If we'd ever talk, we'd have nothing to talk about. I'd want to talk about the Eagles game and he'd want to talk about a new single." Kasey says, sighing at the end.
"I appreciate you liking my style but even if you wore the same clothes as me, you still wouldn't be "rocker" or whatever you call it because you don't listen to or like that type of music and Kasey, you're an athlete and you're so damn good at it! I'm not into that, but I excell with music. Kasey, I think you are absolutely beautiful and changing yourself to somebody you definitely are not for some boy is stupid. Absolutely dumb."
"I know, you're right. I'm the way I am for a reason and I shouldn't be anyone different. You were born a rocker and I was born an athlete and that's okay. And besides, opposites attract."
"That's the spirit!" I say.
"So outfit number 2, then?" She asks.
"Outfit 2." I agree.
Author's Note:
