Chapter Five: History Lessons

"I'm sorry, what the fuck did she just say?" Killian asked from his spot in the floor, leaning against the couch.

"Mom, you can't be serious."
"Tell me she's joking." Keanu and Keni said from our smaller couch.

I glanced at Milo beside me and then turned my gaze to the pair of grey wings attached to his back. Actually they're more like a silver grey color. Folded nearly against his back. Almost invisible unless you look through the cuts in his shirt.

I glanced at Belle and Arielle, finally able to see their wings better.
Belle's are a soft red color while Arielle's are a pretty brown.

"Do these wings look like a joke? You just saw then stop a massive tornado." Ruby said pacing in front of us all.

Mom sighed "She's not lying. We're from Amarantus. Home of the Demos. It's like a different dimension. It exists right beside us, just there's a veil over it so we can't see it. Normal humans can't get there, but for us there are doorways around the world. Like have any of you heard of the Fae?" Mom asked looking around.

Oddly enough, it was Conrad who answered. "They are a legend from the UK. They are said to have both Angel and Demon blood. They are known to have insane magical powers, wings and are very known as tricksters, they love making deals and then twisting it." He said from the corner of the living room, where him and his family sat. All with matching wide eyes.

"Are you Fae?" Foster asked, still sitting next to the wolf pups.

Mom shook her head. "No, but Demos are very closely related to the Fae. They both share common ancestors. But like the Fae, our home is very magical. In our realm there are five main kingdoms. All with their own royal family. Children born to the Aura Kingdom have the ability to control the air, and fly. Like you guys did today with the tornado." Mom explained.

"So we're from the Aura Kingdom? Why are we here?" I asked confused.

Mom smiled gently. "No, your not. The King's are. Your from a different kingdom. Like the O'Hare's." She said before Penny interrupted.

"Wait, I'm from uh, what was the place called?" She asked squinting her eyes.

"Amarantus." Mom, Milo and I all said at the same time.

"It's like this. Amarantus is our America. Okay? And each kingdom is kinda like it's own state." Ruby explained to her sister. "So yes, we're from Amarantus too. Just a different state. We are from Phyton. It's a place where they worship the earth. Animals and plants. Anything that comes from the earth. We have the ability to control plant-life and talk to animals. It's why mom and dad opened the rescue. They adored being able to truly help the animals." Ruby explained looking at her siblings.

"What about us? Where are we from?" Keni asked mom.

"We're from Thymos. Our people have the ability to heal, and sometimes even see the future. But alot of the people of Thymos can also have a second or third ability. Some can even control all of the elements. But that's mainly only the royal family." Mom explained.

"What are the other kingdoms? You said there's five. What are the other two?" Foster asked, her brown eyes wide in amazement.

"Nesos, the water kingdom. They can control the water, and breathe underwater. Basically real life mermaids. And the last kingdom is Helios. They can control fire, I'm not sure about much else. They are very secretive." Ruby explained.

"Why are we here? And not there. It sounds great." I said frowning, rubbing my arms. The wet clothes, freezing my bones.
Ruby quickly grabbed a blanket and threw it over Milo and I before turning around and getting blankets for everyone else.
