I woke up with pain shooting down my spine, and an angry looking Master towering over me.
"How dare you sleep!" He yelled as he took a swift Kick to my ribs.
I internally grunted as I heard a snap and stood up as fast as my body would allow me.
"I'm sorry," I whisper.
"Don't speak to me!" He said while punching me in the face, which causes me to fall backwards.
"I know what you did. What you did with the star!" He yelled.
I looked at him in disbelief. I didn't do anything. How could he think I have?
"What?! Do you think I wouldn't have noticed?! The missing wire! Where is it! Give it to me now!"
What was he talking about. A missing wire? I didn't take anything.
"Don't look at me like you have no clue what I'm talking about! You are weak! You will obey me till the day your grave is filled! You are worth nothing! But, if you give it to me, then that can be changed." He spoke the last part softly while leaning close to me.
"I-I don't know w-what your t-talking about." I stutter.
An inhuman growl came from him as he grabbed my hair and slammed my head against the concrete floor. My vision instantly became blurry.
"Hey! Stop!" I faintly heard Kayla yell from the other side of the cell wall.
"Shut up!" The Master screamed.
My body felt fuzzy as he picked me up by my hair and, one again slammed me against the floor. He then did this over and over until all I could see was red.
My blood was now covering the floor. My rags didn't have a dry spot on them, and The Master's shoes that were once black, now looked rusted.
"Please! Stop! She didn't take it!" I heard Kayla yell once again.
"And how the f*** do you know?" The Master bellowed.
I heard the squeak of his shoes turn away and go towards Kayla.
"B-because I took it. I took the wire."
What? She took it?
There was dead silence. Not even the usual scurry of rats was heard.
After a few minutes The Master came back to me and pulled me harshly up by my arm.
"Do you see this Phoenix? This is what I was talking about. People don't care about you. They wait until after you suffer. They let you take the blame for them."
The Master used his other hand to lift my head up so I'm looking at Kayla.
As soon as my head was lifted I heard a gasp from Kayla.
"Oh my God," She whispered faintly.
"This is how life always is, Phoenix. And me keeping you down here, I'm saving you from all the pain. If I let you go, then you won't even make it till next week. Freedom equals pain."
I couldn't help but believe him.
How couldn't I? It was all true, and I've know that for years.
At this point I couldn't even see. The blood has made me go blind, and my whole body was pounding.
"Don't listen to him. Don't think about what can happen in a month, or a year. Just focus on the twenty-four hours ahead of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be. Just because there is no hope now, that doesn't mean that there never will be," Kayla cried.
Her words held hope, something that I was stripped of years ago.
Could I be like that again? Could I hope to leave?
My thoughts were quickly interrupted as The Master pushed me down to the ground so I was facing him. He had one hand on my forehead and his knee dug not so gently into my broken ribs.
"If you believe that s*** for one second then your dead. Do you hear me. That hope will eat at you. It will eat you till there's nothing left. And if you think this is bad, love is even worse. Love will not only eat that you, it will rip you into pieces," The Master spoke loudly into my ear.
The next thing I know, The Master's foot collides with my head, and I fall into a not so peaceful sleep.
