(HARPER'S POV)
"Negative." I mumbled to myself, as the test finally went from loading, to NOT PREGNANT. Dezi was still sleeping in our bedroom, it being a Saturday. I had a million pregnancy announcements circling inside my mind for weeks, it never occurred to me I'd have to tell him about a negative test. But I suppose I'd have to tell him eventually. Might as well get it over with. My period is due next week, he'd figure it out then anyway.
With a sigh, I took the test and left the bathroom. I took a seat on the edge of the bed in our tiny bedroom area, catching Dezi's attention.
"Morning Pearl." He whispered in my ear, kissing my cheek and resting his chin on my shoulder. "What's this?" I didn't answer as he took the test form my hands.
"Its negative."
"I see that." Moving to sit beside me, he gave me a reassuring smile. "It's only our first try, you can't expect it to happen right away.
"I know, I just..."
"I know." He finished without needing to voice the words. "We'll try again next month. Look on the bright side, you can still drink for a little while."
I playfully elbowed his side.
He laughed, kissing my cheek again before getting up.
"I guess I better get started with the day." I sighed, getting up as well. "I told your Dad I'd make him breakfast."
Desmond turned and looked at me with raised eyebrows. "You know you don't have to do that."
"I know, but I like your Dad. And we moved in so he wouldn't be alone. We can't hide away in here all the time."
"I guess." He admits, gathering up his things to shower. "Make me some. I'll be out in a minute."
"Don't take to long!" I called, leaving the room. The kitchen was just down the hall. Winston purposley made sure mine and Desmond's room was the furthest room from his. Claiming newlyweds and old men didn't mix. Personally I thought he was worried for nothing. But Dezi agreed, so I didn't fight them on it. Besides, it gave us one of the biggest rooms in the house. Though I loved Winston like my own father, I liked having my own space.
Desmond and I liked our mornings together, breakfast in bed, wandering the room in little to no clothing. Our room was big enough to be a small apartment, though it was just one room, we set it up in sections. With our bed pushed up against the wall in the northwest corner, the couch and tv set up in the south side, with a small table and some chairs set up in between them.
I pushed to join Winston, but Dezi would much rather stay in our room, just us two.
"Morning Harper." Winston smiled, pouring himself some coffee.
"Goodmorning." I greeted, turning on some music, and pulling out the ingredients for pancakes. "How was dinner last night?"
"Good." He said over his newspaper. Winston always sparked my interest. He was the exact opposite of my own dad. My dad was much more modern, traveling all the time, caught up in the latest tv series, never willing to slow down. I don't think Winston even knew which remote turned on the tv. "What?" He asked when he saw me staring. I'd been so lost in thought I hadn't even noticed.
"You're nothing like my dad." I voiced honestly.
"Is that a bad thing."
"No. Just... different."
He chuckled. "You worry about the food. There's plenty of time to analyze me later."
I couldn't stop the smile from forming on my face. Humming along to the music, I moved around the room with a bounce in my step. Breakfast wasn't hard to make, by the time Dezi entered the room there was pancakes and scrambled eggs on the table. With orange juice and fresh coffee.
