In Between Time Hurts

While I was at work earlier my friends from highschool asked if I could stop by the coffee shop. The shop was a little hole in the wall but it was a Gem well that was the name too, Gem's coffee shop. It looked old and vintage like but the coffee was bomb. I clearly agreed and stayed in my work clothes I didnt have time to go and get dressed. That would of meant I was going to stay in or be asked a bunch of questions by them. Of course they were already there. Our click consisted of me, Sonya, Mandy, Alexis and Andrea. I walked up and greeted them waving with a big smile on my face. I say "I missed you guy". They all instantly got up and hugged me like they didn't just see me last week. We talked about boyfriends, work, co-workers, assumptions and the hot ass coffee waiter. It really bothered me because I couldn't say anything its been an entire 2 years out of highschool and I never talked about life outside of life. I just sat there with a bummer face on. Mandy noticed and asked how come you never talk about your boyfriends with us Sonya or we still haven't been to your house after all these years being friends we've all never been to your house. My pale skin lit up and I spilled my coffee. I said "okay my house is having two events A dinner and a Halloween party. I'll check back with my parent's first. They all sucked their teeth. Alexis blurted out " come on your old enough to make your own decisions, as long as we've known you your parents never showed up not once to a parent teacher conference. We've seen them drop you off to school on occasions thats it". I could imagine in my head strangling her and sucking her blood until she turns purple or maybe turning her so she could live my life but nope. I just sat there and crossed my legs. I than said "enough be at my family dinner or be square". They all let out a relief and said "yes". Andrea also brought up about how this guy from her gym was looking to hook up with me. She also says " just give him a chance I can set up a date between you two and I can give him your number". I rolled my eyes because I wasn't sure if I was allowed to date humans as in like them. I mean people did in our crew but they had to devote their life to this life and their old life was either split or they left it behind. I didn't wana put anyone through that.I just left those thoughts in the back of my mind and continued to eat tuna salad sandwiches and coffee like the good old days. After we finished grubbing I told them I had to head out and that I would send virtual text to confirm for both invites. I headed home to get ready for the club. It was feisty Friday. Which mean we had a Hip hop dj and a lot of the girls in there knew how to turn up well the younger ones did. They taught me a move or two.
