I sat on the booth bench in shock. She just walked away from me. Lyra. I didn't even ask her last name. I was so taken by her presence and the way her body felt against mine. My wolf whined in despair. My mate left. No woman had ever done that before.
I let out a breath and flagged down a server, "Another bourbon."
While I waited for my drink, I took stock of the club. How could all these people continue about their lives; while I sat here feeling like the air had gone out of the room. I noted Sergei was talking to a man with an eye patch over his left eye; over by the vampire corner. Disgusting bloodsuckers.
That must be his informant, of course there are spies working for the Institute everywhere. My father's business had a way of following me; my whole life. He had an all consuming obsession with power. I snorted. One day I'll become the Alpha and get to live life on my own terms.
Maybe I could ask Sergei about Lyra, I thought to myself, but dismissed that errant thought quickly. I knew I couldn't trust him with information this sensitive. I was going to have to figure out what she was without his help, for surely he would tell my Father the truth first. I could not let that happen, I have to claim her as mine and mark her before I could do anything. It was too dangerous considering what she is. Which is what exactly?I've clearly seen that she can do magic; she made that ball of fire in her hand easily. But on the other hand, her eyes... her golden eyes, shined out to me showing me her wolf. Something was wrong with this; like there was a puzzle piece I was missing. Her hair had felt like silk within my fingers. I looked down at my hand, smirking, as I thought about how I had made her climax on them. I can still smell her nectar on them. My cock twitched again and I rolled my eyes.
Where the fuck is that drink? I can't even think about her without getting hard. This is ridiculous!
The server finally brought my bourbon over and I slammed it down hastily. I needed something to take the edge of the emptiness I felt. I closed my eyes and laid my head back taking a moment to gather myself. I was jolted back to my senses by a wave of energy that went through the room. I looked around and saw that only a small number of people seemed to sense that pulse.
Mages. I thought. But, why did I feel that too? Well, that's a first for me. A lot of firsts tonight. I thought; as I was hit by a wave of sadness.
What the fuck is happening to me?I needed to get out of here. This shitty club had lost all it luster now that she was gone. I stooped up slowly. Gotta put on a good show here, can't let any of these Lesser wolves sense that something may be amiss. I square my shoulders and set my jaw into a hard line taking purposeful steps towards the exit. Nodding to Sergei on my way up the stairs. The Institute goons following behind me silently like my own personal shadows.
I could smell Lyra up here, her scent lingered in the air. She must have just left, I followed my nose outside and saw a car driving off into the distance. I took a deep breath of the night air, letting it fill my lungs till I felt they might burst. Looking up at the full moon and I knew I needed to run; to shed this skin and clear my head.
"Dennis, get the car please. I need to get out of this city and stretch." I ordered.
He nodded and walked off. I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and sent a text to Sergei.
"Going for a run. Meet you back at the hotel later."
I scrolled through my contacts and stopped on her name. Lyra. I wanted to text her, but resisted the urge. She had walked away from me first and I really needed one some clarity.
