The kitchen in the bakery smelled of fresh baked bread

The kitchen in the bakery smelled of fresh baked bread. I breathed in deeply, inhaling the scent pulling the fresh loaves from the hot oven. I danced my way through the kitchen, to rest the tray down on a cooling rack and took off my red oven mitts. I had finally finished all of my prep work for tomorrow and could close up the shop for the night. It was already later than usual, due to a last minute customer with a catering order.

I pulled the earbuds out of my ears; surveying my work happily. Pulling my phone out of my back pocket to turn off my music, I noticed I had multiple missed texts from Ruby. I laughed to myself, knowing that Ruby could be impatient. I opened the messages to read them:

"Are you still at work?"
"I have great news. Text me back ASAP!"
"Nevermind. I'm coming to pick you up."

Just as I finished reading her texts, the bell from the bakery door dinged loudly. I brushed the excess flour off of my apron, smoothing out the wrinkles with my hands. I took a quick look in the office mirror; nodding at my reflection within the mirror in approval. My fine silvery hair was tied back with a green ribbon in order to keep it out of my face while I worked. My honey brown eyes twinkled in the light; as I smiled at my reflection quickly before rounding the corner to the front of the pastry shop. Other than being covered in flour, I looked decent enough.

My smile widened immensely, when I saw Ruby coming in, looking like she was on mission. I had met Ruby in culinary school where we became fast friends. Ruby waved at me, as I rounded the corner, with an excited look in her in blue eyes. Her long chestnut hair fell down in loose waves to the middle of her back. Ruby was wearing a white lacy shirt, that swooped low in the front, showing off just enough cleavage to still be tasteful and a pair of dark wash skinny jeans that hugged her body like a second skin.

Lyra knew that look all too well, and that look was trouble. I knew Ruby was planning something; both by the way she was dressed and how she was bubbling with excitement. Ruby raced across the bakery floor and swept me up into a fierce hug.

"Lyra, I got in! Can you believe it? I got the internship at the Aurora Institute! We have to go out and celebrate; and tonight I will not take a no for an answer! I found the perfect place
