Orange.

Why the hell did he have to be orange?

Orange sticks out. Orange doesn't camouflage well. He has to be the most unlucky cat in the world to be this color.

Orange is why he's in this situation.

The wolf growls and snarls over him, trying to bite down on his scruff. If they get him there, he'll definitely be screwed.

Patrick hisses, batting his claws at the wolf's face. He snags their nose, and the wolf flinches enough for him to scamper off. Unfortunately for Patrick, wolves run just faster than he does, which means the wolf chasing him catches up in no time.

Patrick hisses and stands his ground, batting and prancing around the wolf. He's much smaller than the wolf, which actually does him some justice. The wolf can't keep up with the way the cat crawls through his legs and races around him.

Patrick knows he can't outsmart the wolf for long like this. He needs to escape before he's squashed like a bug. Patrick scrambles between the wolf's legs, tripping him up and causing him to bark.

Patrick's tiny legs carry him as fast as they can. The wolf is hot on his tail, barking and snarling. Patrick rushes toward what appears to be a well hidden shack. He hopes there's a tiny hole he can squeeze into to avoid the predator.

Things don't go as planned.

Another wolf bursts out of the shack. He's got a solid brown coat, darker in some spots, with striking brown eyes that look a little too angry.

Patrick still runs full speed into the shack, managing to squeeze by the brown wolf. Patrick doesn't care what the two wolves do outside. He just cares about finding a spot small enough to hide in. There's a bedframe against the wall, it's wooden and banged up, but it provides enough shelter for Patrick to hide under.

Cats can hear very well, which explains why Patrick can hear the two wolves battling outside. It must be over territory, which is understandable. The brown wolf lives here it seems, and the wolf chasing Patrick must've been from another pack.

Unfortunately it means the brown wolf will shift his attention to the orange cat once the other threat has been secured.

He hates how right he is.

There's the sound of wood creaking, followed by the continuous sound of the wolf sniffing. The noise grows louder and louder until his nose reaches the bed frame, and he drops to the floor. He identifies Patrick too fast.

The wolf can't reach Patrick though. He's pressed himself against the wall, furthest from the wolf. It's not a win though. The wolf backs off for a moment, only to shift to human form, and reach a tan arm beneath the bed.

Patrick claws the hand once it gets to close, hissing and moving to the furthest corner.

The man flinches. "Fuckin' cats," He grumbles, not hesitating to peek beneath the bed and locate Patrick again.

Patrick swats at him again, causing more bleeding breaks in the skin. The man doesn't give up, and soon enough, he's halfway under the bed cornering Patrick.

"Come here, kitty, kitty, kitty," He mutters, snatching Patrick's scuff and dragging him out from beneath the bed.

Patrick throws a total fit; hissing, spitting, yowling, howling. The man holds Patrick up to his face to get a better look at the cat, and Patrick doesn't hesitate to throw both claws at his face.

"Hey," The man holds him at a distance. "Stop that."

Patrick continues to make a racket, hoping the man will get annoyed. He never does. He stares at Patrick with the same striking brown eyes as before. They're a golden honey in the sunlight, and that honey mixes with the dark brown in the shade.
