It was morning and I came out of my house to look around. It’s so peaceful. I am starting to like this world.

After a few moment, I heard flapping of wings. I looked up at the sky and saw a Peliper holding a parcel in its mouth. It landed on my mailbox and deposited it inside.

I just stared in awe, when suddenly a familiar voice spoke while approaching my location. “Rindou, don’t be so rude.” She looked at me and smiled at the Peliper. “Sorry, this friend of mine is a weird one. Thanks for the parcel!” She waved at the Pokémon as it flew away.

“Charm…good mornin’ I guess.”

“Well what are you waiting for? Let’s check out our mail!” She took out the parcel in the mailbox and opened it. She squealed like a little girl who looked like someone who had just received her candy.

Curiosity got the best of me. “What’s inside, Charm?”

“Oh, just COOL stuff! Look at these! Our starter kit, filled with berries. Oran berry for recovering health, Pecha berry for curing poison and MANY, many more! Hey, check this out!” She held a shiny badge in front of me.

“A rescue badge?” I inquired.

“Yes! Well, duh! Isn’t it awesome? It’s proof that we’re officially a rescue team! This is just a normal badge but as we do missions, we get promoted. From normal, to bronze, to silver, and to gold! Oh I am so excited!” She kept on looking at the parcel and finally saw a letter attached to it. “Look, our first ever rescue letter!”

“What did it say?” I asked as I came closer to look at the letter.

It said:

Dear Team Devourers,

Please help me find my best friend Pichu! We were both wandering in a cave together when suddenly, a landslide occurred and she got trapped inside. We don’t have that much money and rescue teams kept on declining our call for help. You’re my only hope; please meet me outside the cave ASAP.

Signed,

Spoink

“Oh no, this is bad. We need to go there quickly! The letter is from…Lapis Cave.” Charm quickly grabbed the kit and asked me to follow her.

We finally arrived near the cave and saw a pig-like Pokémon bouncing around with a big pearl on its head.

“Hey, you must be Spoink! We’re Team Devourers.” Charm smiled at the worried Pokémon.

Spoink seemed to brighten up a bit. “Oh, thank goodness! I couldn’t go alone inside because the cave is so dark and scary. It’s also filled with infuriated Pokémons, maybe because of the landslide.” She frowned slightly.

“Cheer up! We’ll go and get Pichu back to you. We can do this!” I said positively.

“Thank you so much!” Spoink bounced up and down out of excitement.

“By the way, I’m Rindou and this is Charm.” I grinned.

“Nice to meet both of you. Hey, is Rindou kind of an unusual name?” Spoink wondered.

“It is. Ha ha. Right, so let’s go! But first we need to find a new entrance to the cave.” I said nervously, trying to avoid her question. Is my name that unusual? Spoink might not believe that I’m human.

The three of us went around and finally saw a small hole. We dug through it until it is finally big enough for us to fit in. Charm used her flame-lit tail to light up the cave for us. Inside, the walls were made of shiny blue stones which I assume were Lapis Lazuli.

We wandered around for a few minutes when we both suddenly heard a faint scream coming from far away.

“Oh no, that’s Pichu!” Spoink bounced panicking and accidentally stumbled upon a rock. She tripped and the pearl on her head rolled away into the darkness.

Charm gasped in exasperation while I cursed under my breath.

“Oh no, I need it. It’s the most important thing in my life. I inherited it from my parents.” Spoink spoke helplessly as she stood up and tears weld up in her eyes.
