~~~(Shoot and Run by Josef Salvat)~~~
Israel throws back the rest of his beer, adding to the pile of bottles on the coffee table in front of him. Case sits next to him, chugging his own as they both whine about their luck in the romance department. The more Israel thinks about it, the more he's convinced that maybe his whole life plan is to just not marry and stay single. He can do that, right? He doesn't need to go out and having a whole wedding ceremony or getting his wife pregnant. He's fine with staying young in L.A and living his dream of being a stunt double. He pops open another beer, already feeling buzzed but also feeling a little drained thinking about how big of a fail his life has been lately.
"She was married, dude." Israel is telling him. "She had a wedding ring I didn't even see."
"Right. So it's not really your fault." Case is telling him, resting his head on the back of the couch. "At least she didn't film you having sex."
"You're still hung up on that whole Eric thing?" Israel rolls his eyes. He personally was never a fan of Eric but Case also wasn't a fan of Harrow so it balances out.
"Hey, you would be too if your person put you on a porn website." Case points his finger at him.
"True." Israel takes a swig, swallowing hard. "Maybe we've used up all our happiness. Think that's possible, dude?"
"Happiness is immortal or whatever." Case groans. "You can't use it all up or whatever the hell you're talking about."
"I think you can." Israel thinks, staring ahead at the deep red curtains across the room in front of the window. "And I think we did like, three years ago."
"Freshmen year?" Case perks up, his eyes droopy with sleep. "I don't even remember that year."
"Yes you do." Israel claims. "I think Eric was your Harrow."
"That makes no sense whatsoever." Case snickers, putting a pillow in his lap."
"Yes it does, dude." Israel looks at him seriously. "Neither of us have been happy since them."
"Both of them are dangerous to be around." Case hangs his head to the side, shutting his eyes. "Plus, I have no feelings for that piece of shit anyways. You on the other hand is still madly in love with Harrow."
"I am not." Israel nudges his friend so he can sit back up. "Don't say that."
"It's true." Case laughs, looking at Israel. "Israel and Harrow, kissing in a tree-"
"Shut up." Israel goes to nudge him again with his elbow but leans too far over, finding himself just inches away from Case's face. Case stares back with the hint of a smile on his face but it quickly fades as his eyes cover every centimeter of Israel's face. "I'm so buzzed I can barely keep myself up straight on my couch."
"Yeah, straight." Case picks out the word but Israel doesn't completely know why.
Israel shrugs a shoulder, eyeing Case's full lips. Would it be bad to kiss him? Case used to have a crush on Israel all that time ago but there's no way that's still a thing anymore. Israel's bad luck flashes through his head again and he thinks to himself. All of his relationships so far have been with girls. Rhyannon seems to make things work with guys so... what about Case? Israel leans in to see if Case will do the same. Much to his surprise, he does. "Dude, I think we're about to kiss."
"I think you're right." Case responds, beer on his breath but Israel doesn't mind. The two of them kiss each other and Israel arcs his brow at how different it feels to kiss a guy. Case is more rough than all the girls he's been with. It's not a bad thing though. Israel kisses him deeper, Case grabbing his face and they don't dare to stop. Israel scoots closer, Case laying down on his back after dropping the pillow to the floor. He opens his legs, Israel grinding him against him. Israel pushes himself closer to Case, a million drunken thoughts stumbling around in his head. Maybe this isn't so bad.
~~~(END SONG)~~~The next day at school, Harrow wraps her deep purple cardigan around her to hide her belly. She's been puking all morning and she's not sure if that's morning sickness or the fact that she now knows Israel is the father of this baby. This is freaking scary. Israel is definitely not ready to be a dad. Hell, he can't even tell Harrow his true feelings for her. Harrow has lied awake at night, trying to picture herself with Israel, the two of them married, kids, a house. She can picture it quite well but not any time soon. Neither of them are at that stage yet and Harrow isn't even sure if she WANTS them to be. Dallas is going to make a great dad. She will stick with that.
"Tabby, I have to talk to you." Harrow gently grabs Tabby's arm when she finds her at her locker. Tabby is Harrow's only friend that she can trust with this. Sure, Kai knows about the pregnancy but not about the Israel part. He wouldn't tell anyone but Tabby went through this all before. She can relate.
"Sounds serious." Tabby observes stuffing a book into her backpack. "You okay?"
"No. I'm not." Harrow responds honestly. Finding out that Israel is the dad sure threw her entire mood for a gigantic loop that she did not see coming. She didn't even think about the baby being Israel's after finding out that she was pregnant. It didn't even come to mind. "I went and got an ultrasound the other day and found out I'm five months along."
Tabby doesn't see the issue. "Okay, so you're further along than you thought. So?"
"So that doesn't mean the baby is Dallas's." Harrow hisses. She only did the calculations more than enough times to know that she's carrying the spawn of Israel. "It's Izzy's."
Tabby covers her mouth with both hands and her eyes get just as big as Harrow's gold hoop earrings hanging down to her shoulders. "Oh my God."
"That's what I said." Harrow leans against the wall of lockers.
"What are you going to do?" Tabby asks.
"That's what I'm wondering." Harrow looks down.
"Are you going to tell Israel?" Tabby questions further.
"That's what I'm debating." Harrow sighs, fiddling with the corner of the white binder in her arms. Israel has the full right to know that she's having his kid. He deserves to know more than anyone. He NEEDS to know. But she's not even sure she can bring herself to tell him. "I mean, I want to tell him, I do. He has the right to know but... I'm afraid that it'll make everything worse."
"Why do you say that?" Tabby zips up her bag.
"Because I told him that I was in love with him last year and he didn't say it back." Harrow reminds her. "I told him and... he said nothing. I felt like a fool. What if he thinks I got pregnant on purpose just to be tied down to him or something?"
"I doubt he's going to think like that." Tabby disagrees. "I mean, he has to know you're not THAT crazy."
"He wouldn't put it past him." Harrow grumbles, thinking more about it. What is Dallas going to do when he figures out the truth? Will he hate her? Will he try to be a part of the kid's life? He'll probably end up leaving- much to Harrow's despair. He is one of the only good guys that has ever come her way and she knows that what she has is good. She can't give that up. "Great. I'm going to have to tell Dallas too."
"Yeah, I thought about that." Tabby shuts the door to her locker and the two of them start side by side down the hallway. "If you need some help, I can tell him with you."
"It's okay." Harrow replies. She has to start learning to do things herself if she ends up being a mom. She almost has a feeling that in the rest of these four months, she'll end up being alone, raising the kid as a single mom. "I can handle it."
