Tabby washes her face in the bathroom sink of her one story house on Thursday morning. She pats it dry, her pale skin looking a little blotchy. She knew she shouldn't have made all those brownies with Dalton the other day. Tabby ties her hair back into a braid before leaving the bathroom and heading down the hallway to her son's bedroom. She lifts him up off the floor as he rolls one of his toy trucks around on the cushioned mat that almost covers the entire room's hardwood floor. "Hungry?" Tabby lifts him up into her arms. His light brown hair is messy on top and he's wearing batman footie pajamas, latching onto his mom.
"I'm hungry." Dalton tells her, gripping on to the lace material of her casual dress she got for ten bucks at some boutique she went to with Anna over the summer break.
"I know, we're going to get you something to eat." Tabby sets Dalton down in his high chair at the head of the kitchen table. "I picked up some blueberries."
"Yumma!" Dalton chants from his chair with a happy smile on his face.
"Laundry is done, grass is mowed." Pops comes in through the backdoor, wearing one of his usual flannel shirts and jeans. Tabby moved in with her grandparents after leaving her abusive home where her step father took advantage of her- and she ended up with Dalton. "Did Grams pack your lunch?"
"Apparently not." Tabby looks around the kitchen for any source of the brown paper bag that Grams usually leaves for her. Tabby opens the fridge to get the blueberries, finding the keys to the red truck on the top shelf next to the gallon of apple cider. Tabby snatches the container of blueberries and then grabs the keys. "Why are the keys in the fridge?"
"Hm, I didn't put them there." Pops holds his hand out for the keys and Tabby drops them into his palm. "Grams was the last one to drive the truck, I think."
Tabby dishes the blueberries into a bowl. "Can you please get him some juice?" She dashes around the kitchen to make herself lunch. Why wouldn't Grams pack it for her like usual? Sure, Tabby is definitely capable of making it herself but this is morning routine. Tabby gets Dalton up and fixes him breakfast while Grams gets her lunch ready. And why were the keys in the fridge? "What's with Grams? Is she going through menopause?"
"Why would you ask that?" Pops chuckles as he pours Dalton juice into a sippy cup at the counter.
"I don't know." Tabby shrugs, not really knowing what menopause is to be honest. "I have to get going though." Tabby drops some blueberries into a baggie and then grabs a small bag of chips to put in her lunch. "Bye Pops."
"Have a good day sweetie." Pops tells her as Tabby kisses Dalton's head before dashing out the front door.

"Thanks for the breakfast, Natalie." Anna gets up from the kitchen table at her dad's girlfriend's house. Meeting Natalie, Josh, and Meg hasn't been as horrible as Anna thought it would be. Natalie is an actual cool mom, Josh minds his own business but is humble when spoken too, and Meg is just... unpredictable, in a way. Kissing the other night at Rhyannon's party was the cherry on top of getting to know Meg during that dinner. That kiss was much needed, especially since Anna went all summer without having any kind of action. It's about time something worked out for her.
"Any time." Natalie takes the plate from Anna and loads it in the dishwasher. "Will you be staying here to keep Meg company for the next few days?"
Anna arcs a brow. That sounds like an opportunity she doesn't want to pass up. She glances behind her at Meg, who's sitting at the table with french toast in front of her on a plate. Anna looks back at Natalie. "What's the next few days about?"
"Your dad agreed to fly back to Chicago with me for a while." Natalie explains. "You know, just so we can have some alone time. Josh said he'll be touring San Diego but Meg said she didn't want to. You're more than welcome to stay here with her if you'd like."
"Meg?" Anna looks at Meg for permission. They haven't kissed since the other night but from the look on Meg's face, the two of them are on the same page.
"That sounds perfect." Meg nods her head. "I'd hate to be in this big house all by myself."
"Okay, great." Natalie shuts the dishwasher. "So this will be like sister-sister bonding time."
"Yeah." Anna tries not to laugh and then looks at Meg again. "Sister bonding time."
