Alyssa's POV:
Stiles, Scott, Lydia and I brought Baby Derek to the Animal Clinic. Needless to say, Deaton was extremely shocked. "Wow."
"Wow? Wow as in, "I've seen this before and I know exactly what to do," kind of wow? 'Cause that's the kind of wow we were hoping for."
I glanced at my boyfriend and back to Deaton. "Or is it the other kind of wow?"
Deaton nodded in my direction. "I think you might be overestimating my abilities."
Lydia brushed Baby Derek's cheek. "He's cold. Really cold."
Scott looked up at his boss. "Do you think this is permanent?"
Deaton shrugged. "I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate. This is well beyond my experience."
"So what do we do with him?" Stiles asked.
Deaton sighed. "Until he wakes up, probably not much. It might be best to leave him with me. He'll be safe here."
"You mean from Kate?" I inquired.
"If she's alive and she is what you say she is, she won't be able to walk past that gate."
Lydia frowned in confusion. "Why would she want to do this to him?"
The vet sighed. "Knowing Kate, it's probably for a reason that won't be any good for anyone but her."
Stiles scoffed. "And bad for everyone else."
Deaton looked to each of us. "You guys should probably go home. He doesn't look to be in any danger. So maybe the rest of you should get some sleep? It is a school night... And you all need to start taking care of your own lives again."
"Someone should stay with you," Scott told him.
I looked down to see that Baby Derek was holding Lydia's hand. "I'll stay. My grades are fine... Despite missing a few classes."
I frowned. "Lyds, I don't think that's such a great idea."
"Guys, go," she said, nodding to me that it was okay.
I shook my head, not quite trusting Baby Derek. Derek I trusted, but I had no idea what made Baby Derek tick.
Scott started pulling me away as he said, "Text us if anything happens."
I shook my head. "Look, I don't know what makes Baby Derek tick. I'm not leaving her." Scott dragged me away and I tried fighting him and failed epically. "Fine. Clearly you're stronger."
At school the next day, Stiles held my hand and swung it as we talked to Scott. Lately, Malia had been finding her way to my house and curling up on my bed, preventing me from lying comfortably on it. I explained this to my friends. "So, it's like three in the morning. I wake up and she's overtaken my bed. She just climbs in through my window. She does this like every night."
"And then what happens?" Scott asked.
"Well, since Malia overtakes most of it, I have to sleep on the floor. And my neck has started getting an ongoing crick in it. I want my poor bed back, guys."
Stiles took one hand and began massaging the back of my neck. I glanced back at Scott, stopping Stiles' massage, amazing as it felt. "I think she knows we're hiding something from her. It's like she can sense something."
Scott frowned. "You mean Peter?"
"We got to tell her, Scott," Stiles said.
Scott nodded. "Yeah, I know. I just... I don't know how."
