Always go with the choice that scares you the most, because that's the one that is going to help you grow. - Caroline Myss
Bewildered by the voice that spoke a minute ago, Dr. Everrett feared for the worst. Nolan held his folder filled with notes close to his chest and eyed his patient.
It certainly didn't sound like Janneth's, which was soft and a pleasant one you could listen to. Although her voice was jumpy at times due to her nervousness, it wasn't possible that she could feign a gloomy pitch.
Even though he expected someone named Piper to show up, he never realized her voice would sound darker than what he heard yesterday.
Just remembering how Piper whispered to him the day before caused Nolan to become unstable.
"I'll be back!... And Doctor, be warned,"
That was what resounded in his mind like a broken record. The eerie thought of someone watching over you was all he could think about. One that had a deep tone where it sounded as if it were dead and subtle; there wasn't any emotion that came with it. It was dead as a doornail.
But that's what he wanted, evidence as if Piper knew he wanted her to appear on the camera. And Nolan was the therapist, not the patient, so he reminded himself to keep calm no matter what. It wasn't his time to observe himself.
Just as Janneth explained to him, Piper must have sounded like that due to her premature death. The crackling voice sounded like a soft moan as if she was in despair or discomfort. But he couldn't figure where it was coming from as it vibrated at every corner of the room.
Thus, Nolan was sure that wherever that spirit was, the camera he inserted a while ago should have caught a glimpse of it. That would be his confirmation, one that he could show to his colleagues and verify that he wasn't going cuckoo.
Piper hummed again.
"Hmmm, Tabitha's chants didn't put an end to me, Janneth. I can live forever! So answer me, didn't you miss having me around?"
Trying to ignore her nemesis, Janneth bit her tongue and prayed for the best that Piper would behave herself in front of the doctor.
"Show, show yourself, Piper! I burned you to the ground. I thought Tabitha broke the curse. Why can't you just leave me alone! You ruined my life!"
Janneth tried to fight back the tears that started flowing upon her cheeks as she wiped them with her hand. She kept reminding herself she was more important than some aspiration who acts like a child. But,Piper's mysterious voice continued to haunt her, despite Janneth's plea.
Apparently, it didn't Janey. And since I'm back, wouldn't you care to introduce me to this handsome doctor? Earlier I had the privilege of meeting your secretary, Doc. Vera was such a sweetheart. Too bad I had to take her soul.
This surprised both Janneth and Nolan, for now, this was an indestructible spirit who would do anything in her power to take whatever she wanted, even if it was a sweet old lady minding her own business.
"And why ... why did you do that Pi?" Nolan's broken voice was shattered into pieces.
My name is Piper Doctor, not Pi. And the answer to your question is because I can! It makes my world go round and round!
