"Hope not ever to see Heaven. I have come to lead you to the other shore; into eternal darkness; into fire and into ice."
-Inferno (Dante Alighieri)After asking her teacher to come forward, Tabitha managed to get down from the examination bed by herself. Although she was still wobbly in the knees, Tabitha forced her limbs to move. As her adopted parents would say, she was stubborn as a mule.
And even though Janneth tried to steady her, the young girl refused the assistance.
She moved closer to Miss Hudson and motioned for Janneth to close the door, for Tabitha didn't want anyone else to hear what she had to say.
She murmured a small prayer to herself, hoping for the best. Folding her hands together, Tabitha briefly closed her eyes.
In all Witchery forbid, please don't hurt me even more!
She bit her lip even though the pain she had slightly immobilized her. Every part of her body ached as it was recovering from Piper's curse.
"Miss Hudson, I'm afraid I ... I have some bad news."
Afraid of returning back to darkness, she refrained from shedding tears. Trying not to cry, Tabitha kept her emotions to herself.
"Go ahead, I am listening, Tabitha. Please go on."
Janneth was curious about what Tabitha had to say and was getting excited if this meant that the end of the evil being was about to happen. Yet at the same time her patience was being tested every minute.
They say patience is a virtue, but at this moment the teacher was rather annoyed since she left her classroom unattended. It would cost Janneth, her job if the staff knew of the brief absence and didn't feel she could put all her trust in Mr. Romero.
She worried that the rest of her students were misbehaving. They were a wild bunch since she knew them well. And Janneth had a hunch that Mr. Romero wasn't doing well , as her students could eat him alive with puns and pranks due to his Spanish accent.
Interrupting her thoughts, Tabitha tried to open her mouth again despite the waxy feeling it had. Bending her jaws together, she announced what she had to say.
"I found Piper, Miss Hudson. I found her! But she took my friends away in return."
Baffled on what happened, Janneth knew this was bound to happen even though she didn't think Tabitha would do such a thing. She knew that the girl was her best student in class, but didn't think she was capable of being that mischievous.
"How? And who did she take?"Thinking of what to say next, Janneth put her hand up against her face.
"What am I going to do with you, Tabitha? You know what, start from the beginning."
Looking sternly at her, Janneth added some reassurance that she would not punish her.
"And I won't be mad at you. Just tell me the truth."
Tabitha began to fidget with her fingers., She was about to tell her teacher that she had lost three of her students, but first Tabitha had to get something off her chest.
"Miss Hudson, I'm not going back to your class. I'm not young as you think I am. I am a witch. It was my duty to find Piper."
