Septic had been pretty mopey lately. Everyone was off doing their own thing. Even Anti was off visiting Dark, leaving him alone in his room.
But he wasn't really alone. He had Trouble at his side. But even she didn't seem like she felt too great either. Or she was just lazy.
Just like her dad.
It had been quite a few months now since Septic had joined in with the egos and he had started to notice different things about himself. He was changing and he didn't know what he felt about that.
But he thought he was getting softer and he KNEW he didn't care much for that shit. Trouble, he'd make an exception for and maybe Anti but now he was even starting to care for Chase!
Just the other day Septic had relented and played a video game with the dad but he thought perhaps he was spending TOO much time around him.
Was he catching his depression?!
Rolling his eyes at himself, Septic hopped out of the bed with his little queen in his arms.
Usually to make himself feel better on days like this he'd flaunt Trouble around Marvin to make him jealous. Or have Trouble claw up Jackie's masks. Or he'd even have Trouble attack Sean on command when he'd visit.
Basically, Trouble was involved in a lot of Septic's schemes, not that seemed to mind.
However, today, she wasn't feeling the best herself, so strangely, she wriggled her way out of Septic's grasp and pounce back on the bed to curl up agian.
Septic was shocked to say the least.
Trouble ALWAYS wanted to be at his side. Was something wrong with her!? Did SHE catch the depression!?
Anxiety coursing through him, he went to knock on Chase's door. Like hell, he'd go to Marvin!
When the father answered the door, he looked suspicious but sighed, "Hey, man. What you need?"
"Is depression contagious?"
Chase snorted but saw that Septic was serious and coughed a little, "Uh . . .no bro. Depression is NOT contagious. Why you ask?"
"Well I was hanging around you just the other day and now I feel sad and weird. And THEN, I tried to get Trouble to come with me for some antics but now SHE feels all sad, I think. She won't follow me like usual. I think it's your fault."
"Whoa there." Chase shook his head, "First off, no. You can't catch something like that so maybe you're just feeling lonely or sad today? It happens. Second, maybe Trouble's just tired? She runs a lot of errands for you, after all" he smirked.
Septic did think it funny, "How do I make her feel better?"
Chase shrugged, "Dude, I don't know. As long as she's not acting like she's sick, puking or not eating then I think it's safe to say she's fine. Just let her get some rest."
Septic nodded slowly but sighed to himself.
"But now that leave you feeling all sad and alone again, right?" Chase picked up.
Septic growled, "Don't be ridiculous! Now that HAS to be on you! I felt just fine until I was playing games with you the other day!"
Chase just rolled his eyes, "Dude, it's fine. You're gonna be okay. It'd be a miracle if you DIDN'T have depression or anxiety. Most of us egos do. Mostly me for obvious reasons but it'll be okay, dude. You'll push through"
Septic didn't look convinced.
Silence crossed between them for a while until Chase finally let out a deep breathe, "You want to hang out? I'll make the cocoa?"
Septic nearly bounced on the balls of his feet but kept himself contained with a curt nod, "Sure. Fine. I don't have nothing better to do right now I suppose"
"If you want, you can bring Trouble in and lay her on my bed so you can keep an eye on her? I'll go make the hot chocolate."
It was a hassle to gather up Trouble in his arms but finally the spoiled cat relented and let him take her with him, "You're getting bigger every day, you know that?" he told her, "Maybe Anti was right. I should stop feeding you ice cream"
She meowed angrily in response.
"Alright, alright" he chuckled, "Damn, you're needy"
She mewed again.
When he got back to Chase's room, he barged in and laid Trouble on his bed and immediately, she made herself at home, stretching on her side and purring.
Septic was about ready to lay next to her when Chase walked in with a couple mugs in his hands, "Hey! I see you got her to move, huh? She looks fine to me"
"She's lazy"
"You both are. Two peas in a pod. You want to play a game?"
Septic took a mug of cocoa and dipped a little of the whipped cream on Trouble's nose, smirking as she lapped it up greedily, "Sure."
"Anti told you to stop giving her sugar."
"I don't care what he says"
"She's gonna get diabetes and die faster"
". . . . . fine. I'll ween her off of it. Now let's play a horror game or something. I'm in the mood to kill"
"When aren't you?" the father teased.
Later that night when Anti teleported back from the Ipliers, he noticed two things were off. Septic and Trouble weren't in their room and it was dead silent in the house.
Granted it was a lazy rainy day out but every once in a while, it sent shivers down Anti's spine when it was too quiet.
He followed Septic's energy signature closely to eventually come up to Chase's room. Biting his lip, Anti peeked open the door but was really surprised by what he saw.
There on Chase's bed was Septic and Trouble flopped on Chase's chest laying in a T-shape with the controllers in their hands. Trouble, having sensed Anti there, peeked her head up and purred but refused to move, too comfy.
Anti smiled at the sight and went to his own room.
'I'm glad Septic's finally getting along with the others.' but now he felt a little prick of jealousy in his heart.
That and he was now alone in his room for the first time in months.
With a light groan, he relented, grabbing a pillow and going back into Chase's room. He tried to be as quiet as possible and situated himself on the other side of Chase to curl up against him for the night. Trouble purred loud at his presence.
Chase must have heard it because he woke up just a little to see Anti with them, "Glad you're back Anti. Night"
"Night, Chase.. . . . Night Septic"
"Shut up. Trying to sleep here, asshole" he grumbled.
Really, though, Septic would never admit that he felt better than ever now. Seems the day with Chase had done the trick. That and the cuddle pile with Anti.
Maybe depression wasn't so contagious. But this weird, warm feeling in his heart was.
