"A minute." Salvatore tells the maid. "We will be down in a minute. You are dismissed."

The maid nods and with that Salvatore shuts the door behind him. He turns to me - his face rid of all emotion but one. The serious one. The one that makes me shift in discomfort when he casts his dark shadow over me and looks down at me. His next words come out with such power and command. I shiver. "What did you do?"

"Let us Find Out." I respond in the softest most innocent voice I can muster. His lips twist into a sinister smile when he catches onto the double connotation behind the response. I extend a hand towards him. "Shall we?"

He intertwines our hands. "We shall."

Just like that we head downstairs where we are met with two police officers. One female - one male. I freeze when I take a closer look at the male policeman. It turns out to be none other than Damien. I look to Salvatore and I know he knows what I have in mind - Damien should be dead.

"Surprised to see me?" Damien remarks as he turns the attention back to himself. He stares down at me dressed in no more than a robe then he stares down at the interlocked hands of Salvatore and I. From that he comes up with a conclusion - which is of course not far from the truth - and from that he turns me into a traitor and treats me as such.

"You know each other?" the female officer asks no one in particular but of course Damien is the First to respond. "I worked with Carina at some point."

Salvatore tenses besides me but I squeeze his hand in reassurance. I then scoff at Damien before I proceed to respond to him. "You call that work? It was more so a conversation about a matter or rather matters that did not and still do not concern you."

"All matters to do with crime concern me otherwise I would not be here."

"What are you here for?" Salvatore questions his demeanour colder than ever.

"Answers and a criminal." Damien looks at me when he lets out that last part.

"You will find neither of those here so I will ask that you leave before security escorts you out." Salvatore responds and earns a chuckle from Damien who takes a brave step towards Salvatore who is at least a head taller than him.

"Listen pal." Damien starts. "We can either do this the easy way or the hard way. The easy way is that you let your girlfriend answer our questions here and now.

The hard way is that I charge you with obstruction of justice and take you both down to the police station. There I will have you locked up before I force the answers out of your girlfriend here. You choose."

Salvatore steps closer to Damien, and towers over him, before he lets out his words in a low, lethal voice: "Let me make one thing clear, Detective. You may have a badge and a gun, but you do not have the power to intimidate or threaten us.

You are standing in my home, and you will show respect to both me and my girlfriend. If you ever dare to make such an idle threat again, I will make sure that you not only lose your job but also your reputation, your livelihood, and everything else that matters to you.

So, if you value your career and your freedom, I suggest you leave now before I change my mind about calling security."

Damien attempts to counter, but the female officer stops him. "Go back to the station. I will handle this alone."

"Fine but this does not end here." Damien directs that last part to Salvatore and I before he leaves. The female police officer lets out a breath before she takes out her notebook in that careless manner. A clear indication of her intimidation but who would not be?

If Damien let her in on the fact that Salvatore is associated with the Mafia then she must know that one slip up will land her six feet under.

"Have a seat." I smile at her, before we settle down.

Then, she starts the interrogation, "I do not plan on wasting even more of your time, so the reason we, or rather I am here is because of Natalia. You know her, correct?"

"Correct."

"Natalia is in the hospital with two crippled feet as we speak." The female officer informs, as she looks me dead in the face.

I want to smile, and dance and scream in triumph but now is not the time. Now, I have to pretend to be as shocked as Salvatore is. With that in mind, I respond with a voice so sad but controlled and concerned. "That is terrible, officer. What happened to her?"

"You should know." The policewoman tries to be smart about it but I am smarter.

"Should I?" I furrow my eyebrows, "I was eliminated from the audition."

"For what reason?"

"You should know." I smile, as I use her own words against her.

She brushes it aside, "Whatever the case, Natalia is convinced that YOU are responsible for her accident."

"Does she have proof of her accusation?" Salvatore chimes in.

"No but-"

"Case closed." He cuts her off, "Now, leave and never set foot here unless invited. Otherwise, I will report YOU for criminal trespass."

I add onto his words. "I, on the other hand, will report YOU, and Natalia for defamation of character. Get out."

She makes a face but leaves nonetheless. Salvatore then pulls me onto his lap, and whispers, "Now, where were we?"
