This morning is weird. I remember parts from yesterday. They're blurry and confusing, but they're there. I remember Riley and school, even the fight with my mom. This isn't supposed to happen. Why do I suddenley remember these things? I know who I am and this isnt normal.

"Good morn- oh! You're already awake. Have you read the cards?"

I contemplated whether or not to tell her. I didn't know what to expect so I just didn't tell her.

"Yep. I'm 16 year old Avery Smith. I'm a Claude Monet High Junior, oh with no homework from school. " I smiled politely.

"Avery, I feel it is only fair to give you a little bit more information about your situation."

I took in a sharp breath and sat up eagerly to hear her words.

"As you already know your doctor, psychatrist and I all know the story."

I nod.

"Well, according to your doctor your memory will recovery in 3 months-around the time of your birthday."

She paused and I took full advantage of the opportunity.

"So this is revolving around my birthday?" I asked startled and confused.

She nodded.

I flip.

"What the heck?! What does this have to do with my birthday?? I fell off a cliff and hit my head. You act like I was abducted by aliens and had my brain messed with!"

She was looking everywhere but my eyes.

"Well?!" I pursued.

"Now, Avery I didn't say that-"

"But you didn't say otherwise either, Mom!" I cut her off.

"Avery Smith, you will watch the way you talk to me. I don't care how pissed off you think you are, I am still your mother."

"I'm sorry mom. This whole situation is very frustrating. And now you throw my birthday into the mix." I let out an exasperated sigh.

"I understand that but you gotta remember that we are both struggling here."

I nodded and asked her to get out so I could ready myself for school. However, as soon as she shut the door I pulled out my phone to text Riley and tell him what happened.

As soon as I was ready and out the door I texted for Riley to meet me at the bus stop. Ironically, we arrived at the same time.

"Hey, what up?"

"Ah ya know, the usual. Aside from remembering parts of yesterday and my mom neglecting to make it any easier."

"Oh okay.."

He missed it. He missed what I said..

He blinked.

"Wait WHAT?!" His eyes widened in shock.

Or maybe not.

"You remember yesterday!?" He practically yelled out at the bus stop.

I clasped my hand over his mouth.

"Could you keep it down? And yes but can we go somewhere else to talk?"

He nodded and looked down at my hand. I moved it.

"What about school?" He looked concerned.

"I mean like you said, they'd understand." I smirked.

He chuckled and took my hand.

"Off to the park we go then!"

The park was deserted seeing that everyone was either at school or working, fortunately making it easier for us.

"So you remember?"

I nod.

"Yep- it's blurry but it's there."

"Your mom?"

"Couldn't tell her in risk that she'd flip shit. Please, don't say anything."

"Hey, it's okay. You're secret is safe with me." He smiled

Gosh, I loved that smile.
Did I really just think that. I barely even know him. Yet it's like I've known him my whole life..who are you to me? Really??

We continued around until we found a bench and sat down. I looked at him.

Let's find out.

I exhaled.

"Riley?"

"Yeah, Avery."

I hesitate. But he pleads for me to keep going with his eyes.

"Were you there the day I had my accident? And please tell me the truth."

He looked at the ground, then started fidgeting his fingers. He was avoiding my eyes.

"Yes..," he paused, "I was there."

His voice was hoarse and low. I shuddered.

"Why? What were you doing there? Do you know what happened to me?" I pleaded. The questions filed out without much thought or consideration. I really needed answers from someone.

He spotted a tree and walked away towards it. He sat down in the grass and glanced back at me, his face pale as paper.

"I know what happened. I don't know everything though, just bits and pieces."

I walked over and sat next to him.

"Please, tell me." I begged.

He gave me a pained looked and I worried about what he would say.

"If I tell you, can you promise me that you won't tell anyone else?"

"I promise." And I meant it.
