"Be so good they can't ignore you." --- Steve Martin
(One of my all time favourites)

I turn my head to look at him and his face is so close to mine.
So close.
To mine.
His hand holds mine tightly and I look into his honey-gold eyes. They seem to have brighten up. I see the drops of water cling to his lashes.
And I'm mesmerised.
I'm mesmerised by the way the droplets fall onto his cheeks as he blinks.
I'm angry, because someone like him shouldn't have this affect of me. He shouldn't be allowed to be so stunning.
'You have the most unique eyes,' he whispers to me.
'What?' I ask, confused. I've never seen my eyes. I've never even looked in a mirror before, because I've never seen a mirror.
I wonder what colour my eyes are.
'You're the only person I know who has heterochromia. And that's saying something, because I know a lot of people.'
Heterochromia?
'What's heterochromia?' I ask in a whisper.
'One of your eyes is as blue as the ocean, and the other is as green as an emerald. God, I love your eyes,' he whispers.
Oh.
So that's what my eyes look like.
Oceans and emeralds.
'Evelyn?' he whispers again.
He's too close.
I want him to get away but I'm frozen in place.
He leans his head closer to mine and glances at my lips.
He glances
at
my
lips.'Sir, you have a visitor. We can restrain her from you and make sure she doesn't cause trouble,' I hear a firm voice and I instantly jump back like I've been caught doing something forbidden.
I turn to look at the soldier standing by the emergency door of the building.
'Restrain? You think I'm an animal?' I ask him with a glare and he ignores me.
He actually ignores me!
His focus is completely on Archer.
'Take 28-B to her room,' Archer commands, looking frustrated. The soldier salutes him, opens up an umbrella, and walks to me.
'28-B? Excuse me? I have a name!' I shout at Archer, who just looks at me. And then walks back into the building.
What was that?!
'Come on!' the soldier says to me, and with one last look at the sky, I walk with him back inside.

I need a plan.
I need a plan.
I need a plan.
I'm on an army base, and getting out isn't possible without help.
I don't have help, and I don't know anyone here.
So I need a strategy.
I hit my temple lightly as I lay entwined within the duvet on my bed. There has to be a way. Someone inexperienced like me has to win with brains, not brawn.
I need a way to escape.
I need a way to escape.
I need a way to escape.
Suddenly, an idea comes to mind. I sit up quickly as a devious smile invades my face.
I have a plan.

'Come inside now, sweetheart,' Archer says to me, standing by the door of his office.
I reluctantly get off the comfy chair in the waiting room that I was sitting on, and walk inside his office, giving him a smile as I pass him.
It's a fake smile.
It's all a part of the plan.
I take a seat and he does the same, so we're both facing each other from different sides of the desk.
He's changed into a charcoal black suit with a white shirt and a golden tie that goes perfectly with his eyes. They seem to shine as he stares at me with a slight smile playing on his lips.
'You called for me?' I ask him. A soldier had informed me a while ago that Archer wanted to see me. And so I began my plan.
1. Establish a close connection with him. Be friendly and DO NOT BE SUSPICIOUS.
I smile widely at him.
Fake smile.
'Yes. I wan't to help you,' he says, bringing his hands up to his desk and holding - what I know from my books- a phone.
'With what?' I ask, mildly interested.
His smile widens.
'I want to help you act normal in public, and in general. So, I'll be teaching you how to use devices, how to act proper, things to say and not to say, and I'll be granting you access to a library, so you can explore the world on your own too.'
'Does this mean I'll be leaving this place soon?' I ask him carefully, trying not to sound too eager.
Suddenly, his expression hardens and his eyes become cold.
'No.'
Relax Evelyn.
Relax. Don't shout at him.
Deep breaths.
I take a deep breath and say 'OK.'
Like it doesn't matter.
But it does.
His eyes soften and his smile returns, and I realize getting out of this place is not going to be as easy as I thought if Archer is so keen on keeping me here.
But I know for sure that there is no way I'm going to stay here.
With him.
I hate everything here. Everyone. They're all in someway involved in taking away my childhood life.
I hate them.
'Today, I'll be teaching you basics of using a phone. Because that's something almost everyone has.' He opens a drawer and takes out another phone and hands it to me.
'This will be your practice phone. It's not yours to keep, but you will practice on it.'
I take the phone from his hands and enjoy the cool metallic feeling of it in my hands.
I look up, smiling, at Archer.
The poor guy has no idea that what he's doing is going to make life much easier for when I escape.
Which is soon.
Very,
very
soon.♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣
