"The thing about having no eyes, is that you can never close them." --- Because you'll never meet me, by Leah Thomas

(This hit deep every time, man)

He moves closer.

And closer.

And...

'JAYDEN PRICE GET YOUR STUPID BLIND ASS IN HERE! RIGHT. NOW,' an angry voice screams from inside the house.

Jayden and I jump apart from each other and get up quickly. He looks worried. Scared. Like, really scared, and the look doesn't fit well with him. He doesn't seem like the type to ever look afraid.

But just because somebody doesn't look the type, doesn't mean they can't be it.

He runs inside the house, and I follow, jogging in after him.

There, standing at the door of his office, is Rodriguez Price. The President. His entire face is red, his eyebrows are furrowed and his nose is flared. His hands are clenched into fists and his chest is heaving. Up, down, up, down, up, down.

As Jayden passes me, his shoulder brushes against me. He's warm. But he's shivering.

They both disappear behind office doors and I stand there, persuading my legs to move.

Go to your room, I tell myself.

You don't need to hear this, I tell myself.

It's not your business, I tell myself.

I step forward towards the door.

I don't know why. My legs aren't cooperating with my mind and I press my ear to the door.

'How did you hear?' Jayden asks, horrified.

'What do you mean how did I hear?! That doesn't matter. What does matter, is that you told her that I fell in love with someone other than Marissa! You told her I loved someone other than my wife!' Rig accuses, outraged.

Jayden's mum's name is Marrisa? And Rig didn't love her? But then why did he marry her?

'D-dad! She'll probably forget. Really. It's fine. Besides, when Stephanie comes tomorrow, it'll all blow over,' Jayden convinces his father.

There's silence.

Who's Stephanie?

'If you put a single toe out of line, Jayden, you'll ruin everything I've been working for. You'll ruin everything,' Rig threatens.

I hear footsteps and I instantly yank my ear away from the mahogany door.

Niles.

I probably look so guilty right now.

'Young Mistress Evelyn! There you are. I fixed you a nice, camomile and lavender bath upstairs. Also, I've been given instructions to take you shopping tomorrow, so I suggest you rest well,' he says formally.

I roll my eyes.

'I told you to drop the whole mistress thing. It's weird. Thank you for the bath, though,' I smile at him. He bows and walks away, his polished footsteps echoing in the tiled hallway.

Running upstairs to my room, I catch my breath behind the door and begin undressing. I slowly enter the bath Niles prepared. It's warm and smells delightful, and I rest my head on the edge of the tub, letting the soapy spirals consume me.

Rodriguez Price fell in love with a girl under the stars, but he married another - Marissa - who he doesn't love. So then why did he marry Marissa? Why didn't he marry the girl he fell in love with? And who the hell is Stephanie?
