"Mom, I'll be fine I have to go or I'm going to miss the plane." I sighed into the phone as I looked anxiously around making sure I had everything I needed for my trip.
"What time do you land again?" she asked causing me to roll my eyes.
"I land at 6." I picked up my bag and threw it over my shoulder and walked out the door, locking it behind me.
"I thought you said you got here at 3, I have to be at work at 5 I don't think I'll be able to get you from the airport. I'll call and see if Travis or Ava can come get you."
"Don't bother them, I'm sure they're super busy I'll just rent a car." my mom sighed on the other end and I could practically hear her eyes rolling, apparently the apple didn't fall far from the tree on the attitude spectrum.
When I landed in Philly and turned on my phone to call and find a car to rent I saw a text on my phone from Travis.
T-Painintheass: your mom called me and ava are picking you up :)
Me: you really don't have to do that, i'm sure you guys are busy.
T-Painintheass: too late we're here see you soon!
I smiled down at my phone and made my way to get the rest of my bags from baggage claim. I had been friends with Ava and Travis for as long as I can remember. We moved down the road from them when I was 3 and became friends almost immediately, even with me moving to Colorado for school and then Travis and Ava moving to Philly when Travis was drafted to the Flyers, we stayed close. I hadn't seen Travis in about 2 years, Ava used to visit me in Colorado before she started working for the Flyers too, as their photographer, which is how I ended up here. I was done with school and Ava was trying to get me on to be the Flyers social media manager, which is something I had done as an intern for the Avalanche while in Colorado.
After collecting my bags from the baggage claim I walked outside and scanned the line of cars until I saw a familiar face leaning up against a black SUV.
"Are you trying to look like a secret agent?" I laughed as Travis wrapped me into a bear hug as soon as I was in arms reach.
"JAZZI" I flinched at the high pitched squeal as Ava jumped out of the passenger side of the SUV and jumped into my arms causing me to almost fall over.
"Ava, oh my God calm down before you make her change her mind." Travis scolded playfully as he pried her off of me.
"Did you get shorter?" I asked trying to keep a straight face as Travis' face twisted into shock. He was a good 6 inches taller than me, but I always had to give him trouble.
"Not even 5 minutes and you're already chirpin', man I was gonna tell you you looked good, but not anymore." he shook his head and I could hear him muttering 'rude' under his breath but I could see his smile as he grabbed my bags and threw them into the back of the SUV.
"You know its how I show my love Trav." I threw my arm around him and leaned my head against his for a second before going to grab my other bags and help him load the vehicle. "So where you living now?" I asked as I sat back in the seat and leaned my head back. I was going to be staying with my mom for a bit while I waited to find out if I got the job and then saved money for a place.
"Trav and I live with a couple of the guys from the team," Ava turned around to face me and smirked. "It's chaos."
"I truly cannot imagine, do they respect the clean freak in you or do you have to smack em' around a bit?" I giggled.
"Pat is okay about cleaning up after himself, but Trav and Haysey I have to use some force with sometimes." I could tell by her smile that she loved where she lived, we had talked a few times about her living situation and she always seemed to be happy about it, but that was before the other guys moved in. Her and Travis had always been really close, and it was hard for her when he had moved to Philly. Travis had always thought she wanted some space from him, but when I told him how torn up she was about him leaving he quickly found a way to get her out here and on her feet. Ava and I had talked about moving in together if I got the job, but I still wasn't sure thats really something she wanted even though she was the one who suggested it.
It was about a half hour drive from the airport to my mom's house and when we pulled up I smiled. I hadn't been to see my mom since school had started because she always came to visit me since it got her away from my dad. When they divorced and she moved to Philly I wanted to come visit, but she told me I was too busy and continued to come to Colorado for holidays. The house was smallish, but perfect for mom. I wasn't sure me and her would fit here very well for very long, but we could make it work. She had texted me the code to get into the house so Travis, Ava and I hauled my stuff into the house and into the small guest bedroom.
Me: just got to the house. I love it.
MommaBear: I'm glad you got there safe! I'm stuck here til late so i'll have to see you tomorrow.
I frowned at the phone and put it back in my pocket.
"What's wrong?" Travis asked, walking up behind me and putting his head on my shoulder.
"Mom is working late, so I won't get to see her til tomorrow." I pouted.
"Well, you shouldn't be alone your first night here, why don't you come back to our house and hang with us and the guys and we can drop you off in the morning after your interview, since its at the rink anyway." Ava suggested.
"Ok, yeah that sounds good." I said nervously before moving to pack a small overnight bag and my outfit for my interview.
On the way to their house, which was only another half hour, Ava sat in the back with me.
"What's with the face Jaz?" she asked nudging me from my thoughts.
"Do you think the guys will like me?" I was always nervous meeting new people and knowing that if I got the job, I would be getting close with these same guys hadn't hit me until we were on our way to meet them.
"Haysey loves everyone, just don't be a dick," she laughed and grabbed my hand. "Pat is kind of shy and keeps to himself, but he's funny and I'm sure you guys will get along great. The whole team is great Jaz, you'll do fine." she smiled trying to reassure me and I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down only to have my heart rate pick back up as we pulled into the driveway.
"You'll be fine." Travis said as he threw his arm around my shoulder and lead me to the door.
*Chaos was right.*
